POSITION OVERVIEW

The Project Assistant I will be joining the team of Dr. Alexandre Zlotta, under the Department of Surgery- Urology/Oncology at Sinai Health.

Our team supports research focusing on bladder and prostate cancer, with a primary focus on retrospective studies and a small portion of clinical trials. We combine artificial intelligence, genomics, and global multi-institutional collaborations to explore innovative ways to improve cancer early detection/risk, and improve individual patient care. By bringing together data, technology, and expertise from around the world, we aim to turn research into real-world impact.

This position will be hybrid/remote, with 1-2 days per week in-person at 60 Murray St, Toronto.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Administrative Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the development, maintenance and required updates for project related budgets and finances

  • Maintain calendars and manage scheduling requests, organize meetings

  • Inbox organization and monitoring

  • Help in planning conferences and travel for the research team (i.e. booking flights, hotels, itineraries)

  • Draft and develop correspondence and other documentation including: letters, reports, forms, etc. to support the activities of the research team and Principal Investigator

  • Coordination of event planning and invited professorships; organization and planning of two large research conferences in Toronto, in prostate and bladder cancer

  • Must be flexible with respect to time

Research Responsibilities:

  • Review study-related literature, and contribute to manuscript and presentation editing, creation, and preparation for submission as required

  • Participate in data entry and collection from EMRs, and management of large databases

  • Assist with the submissions to the research ethics board (REB), including amendments, renewals and study close-outs

  • Act as a point of contact for all study related inquiries

  • Ensure research projects are following deadlines and identifying any issues that may arise

  • Assist with knowledge translation and dissemination activities (e.g. preparing presentations, abstracts, conference posters)

  • and other related tasks as required

QUALIFICATION AND EDUCATION

  • Successful completion of Bachelor’s in health sciences or related field

  • A minimum of 1-2 years of related experience in or familiarity with a research

  • Knowledge of academic research is an asset

  • Demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills; able to confidently write, present, and communicate ideas clearly and effectively in a professional setting; Public speaking and interpersonal skills are an asset;

  • Excellent scientific writing skills

  • Excellent organizational and time management skills

  • Excellent independent decision-making and problem-solving skills

  • Excellent interpersonal skills

  • Proficiency with MS Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access) is required
