Description

The Registered Nurse Team Lead in the Emergency Department (ED) is the clinical leader in the Emergency Department and facilitates the day-to-day clinical operations in collaboration with the Patient Care Manager and the Emergency Department Team, patients and families in a Northern Setting.

The Registered Nurse Team Lead for the Emergency Department will provide clinical leadership to achieve exemplary care of patients and families in the Emergency Department. You will work collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team to meet optimal patient and departmental needs. With the ED team lead position, you will work to create a positive patient and family centered environment, with an emphasis on patient safety that both mitigates risk and fosters relationships.

You will work in an environment that uses evidence based clinical practice, supports a positive environment for staff, interdisciplinary colleagues, community partners and families while meeting the needs of our culturally diverse community. You will work to assign resources according to patient acuity and perform direct patient care activities according to the needs of the Emergency department. The role is new and will continue to evolve.

Qualifications

  • Current Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO)

  • Current Certification in BLS and demonstrated ongoing competence through annual recertification

  • Current certification in ACLS or completion within 3 months of hire

  • Current completion of Canadian Triage Acuity Scale (CTAS) course

  • Maintain an active membership with National Emergency Nurses Association (NENA)

  • Current ENC(C) Certification or completion within 1 to 2 years of assuming the role and maintain the active certification

  • Current Certificate in TNCC, or completion when course is available

  • Certification in CPI in the last two years or completion when course is available

  • Current certification in ENPC or completion when the course is available

  • Current certification in PALS required when the course is available

  • Certification in IV Therapy with demonstrated ongoing competence

  • Minimum three (3) years of experience in a Critical Care Setting -Emergency Department is preferred

  • Strong leadership skills and qualities with the ability to provide guidance and mentorship to staff

  • Demonstrated skill in critical thinking and problem solving

  • Demonstrated well-developed verbal and written communication skills and organizational skills

  • Demonstrated competency in the skills of mediation, facilitation, negotiation, and delegation

  • Reliable attendance record

The Lake of the Woods District Hospital was founded in 1897, and was originally known as the Rat Portage Jubilee Hospital and then the Kenora General Hospital. Through the years a series of additions and renovations took place to meet the expanding needs of the population. On May 1, 1968, the St. Joseph's Hospital and the Kenora General Hospital amalgamated to form the Lake of the Woods District Hospital. Treating well over 30,000 people per year, Lake of the Woods District Hospital is Northwestern Ontario's largest hospital outside of Thunder Bay.

The Hospital's core programs include emergency and ambulatory care, chronic care, mental health, maternal and child health, and acute care services which include general medicine, intensive care and surgical services. It also manages a broad range of services including dialysis, chemotherapy, diagnostic imaging, mammography, ultrasound, addiction counseling and detoxification, a sexual assault centre, physiotherapy and rehabilitation services, ambulance (land and dedicated air), palliative care and various education programs.
