DEPARTMENT: DAY SURGERY/PACU POSITION LOCATION: OWEN SOUND UNION AFFILIATION: ONA STATUS: FULL-TIME, TEMPORARY (APPROX. END DATE DECEMBER 2026) WAGE RATE: $39.07 – $56.00 Reporting to the Manager Surgical Services, the responsibility of the registered nurse is the promotion of health and the assessment of, the provision of care of, and the treatment of health conditions by supportive, preventative, therapeutic, measures to adults and children during phase I and II recovery within the perianesthesia setting in Day Surgery and PACU.
Skills/Abilities/Qualifications Required
- Ontario College of Nurses registration or eligibility
- Minimum 2 years PACU and acute care nursing experience within the past 5 years
- Broad surgical experience required in all subspecialties
- Successful completion of Post Anaesthetic Course within the last 3 years
- Physical Assessment Course or equivalent
- Coronary Care Certificate I or equivalent
- Current certification in:
- BCLS
- Venipucture to start an IV
- IV meds below the drip chamber
- PCA
- Epidural analgesia
- Demonstrated computer skills in MS Outlook and Cerner applications (Powerchart and Surginet) or equivalent
- Willingness to cross train and be scheduled in PACU
- Demonstrated computer skills in MS Outlook and Cerner applications (Powerchart and Surginet) or equivalent
- Willingness to cross train and be scheduled in PACU as required
- Excellent assessment skills
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills with patients, families and other healthcare professionals
- Excellent leadership, problem-solving, decision-making and interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated commitment to continuous professional development and continuing education
- Self-directed and able to work with minimal supervision
- Recent satisfactory performance and attendance record
- Adherence to Brightshores ‘CARE’ Behaviours (Collaboration, Accountability, Respect, Excellence) and ‘LEAD’ Competencies (Lead by example, Empower, Achieve results, Develop others) and a commitment to a safe workplace free of violence and harassment

Preferred
- Baccalaureate degree in nursing
- ACLS
- Care of CVP, endotracheal tubes/ventilated extubation of an endotracheal tube
