About the role

After School Care Educator

Role and Responsibilities:

  • Plan and implement arts and science activities appropriate for the age-group of the students.
  • Tailor plans to align with the specific interests of the children, that are well-rounded and balanced.
  • Supervise and provide guidance to aftercare staff, including volunteers, aids, and assistants.
  • Plan daily activities for the program that align with the provided schedule.
  • Ensure plans include at least 30 minutes of physical activity each day.
  • Supervise and engage with children during free play.
  • Submit shopping list to program Leader by deadline.
  • Provide detailed records of program activities and lesson plans to program leader by the deadline.
  • Keep children engaged in activities and pivot plans to maximize student engagement.
  • Prevent any problem behaviours with pro-active behaviour management strategies.
  • Create a warm, welcoming, and inclusive environment.
  • Adhere to all workplace and child safety policies and procedures.
  • Model appropriate behaviour that aligns with the developmental stage of the children.
  • Bring any concerns to the program manager as soon as possible.
  • Maintain accurate attendance records and incident reports.
  • Administer basic first aid and handle emergency situations as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Pursuing a degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field preferred.
  • Previous experience working with children in an educational or childcare setting.
  • Strong leadership and organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Current CPR and First Aid certification.
  • Passion for creating a positive and enriching experience for young learners.
  • Minimum Class G licence required.
  • Access to a vehicle is preferred.

Working Conditions:

  • This is a part-time position, typically in the afternoon or early evening, as well as PD days for Halton and Hamilton-Wentworth school districts.
  • The role may require occasional weekends for training.
  • The work environment includes a classroom and other designated aftercare spaces within Laureate College
  • Includes a minimum of 30 minutes outdoor activity (weather permitting).

The Aftercare Program Lead may be required to perform additional tasks as assigned by the Program Leader, Coordinator, and/or Director.
