NAT (the Network for Applied Technology, formerly NeurAlbertaTech) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting education, collaboration and innovation in biosensing technology.
Our focus is on helping people use emerging technology to solve real problems in their communities. Our programs connect teams of students and recent grads with community and clinical partners and provide the hardware, mentorship, and infrastructure for them to prototype, validate, and scale their projects.
Founded by students in 2019, NAT has engaged thousands of youth and early-career professionals through its programs and strategic partnerships across Canada and beyond.
Position Overview
The Events Lead is responsible for organizing and coordinating NAT’s public programs, including hackathons, workshops, and other community events. This role involves detailed planning, team coordination, and on-the-ground execution. The ideal candidate is reliable, organized, and interested in organizing events that bring people together to learn and build new things.
You’ll work closely with internal teams, volunteers, and community partners to ensure each event runs smoothly. This role also offers space to test new formats, improve existing systems, and take on leadership in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
Event Planning and Coordination
- Build and maintain timelines and task lists for each event.
- Secure venues, supplies, bookings, and other logistics.
- Create clear run-of-show documents and setup plans.
Team Communication and Collaboration
- Work with leads from workshops, communications, and logistics to align details.
- Maintain shared documentation and schedules across teams.
- Track updates and keep everyone informed.
Volunteer Coordination
- Help recruit, train, and manage volunteers.
- Ensure volunteers understand their roles and are prepared.
- Provide on-site support and clear direction during events.
On-Site and Virtual Execution
- Lead setup, check-in, transitions, and takedown.
- Handle questions and resolve issues quickly.
- Monitor pacing and flag anything that needs adjustment.
Reflection and Improvement
- Collect feedback after each event.
- Contribute to post-event reports and recommendations.
- Help improve templates and processes for future events.

- Strong planning and time management skills
- Calm under pressure and able to make decisions quickly
- Willing to learn and adapt as things change

Qualifications
Required
- Experience organizing events, programs, or projects in school, work, or volunteer settings
- Interest in building community-focused initiatives
- Ability to work independently and take responsibility for outcomes
Preferred
- Experience managing volunteers
- Familiarity with hybrid or virtual event tools
- Background in community engagement, program delivery, or operations
Working Conditions
This is a hybrid position based in Edmonton. The Events Lead is expected to work in person at least 2 days per week and be fully available on-site during major events. Occasional evening or weekend hours are required to support event execution.
Eligibility Note:
- Must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person with refugee status.
- Must be enrolled in a post-secondary institution at the time of application and remain enrolled for at least the first 30 days of the internship.
- Must be under 30 years of age at the start of the internship.
- Must not have previously participated in a Venture for Canada internship.
