A DAY AS A COUNSELLOR

Reporting to the camp coordinator, the counsellor will work with children aged 5 to 12 to provide them with a meaningful camp experience in complete safety. They will plan and lead age-appropriate activities. They will participate in all aspects of camp, in addition to establishing and maintaining positive relationships with children, parents/guardians, and other team members.

In this position, you will be responsible for:

  • Planning and leading fun camp activities in collaboration with your co-counsellor;
  • Accompanying campers in the water during aquatic activities;
  • Ensuring children are adequately supervised at all times and that the camp is always safe and clean;
  • Communicating regularly with parents/guardians in order to develop and maintain a positive relationship with them and the children;
  • Participating in preparatory meetings and training required for camp including weekly camp meetings and welcome phone calls.

CANDIDATE PROFILE

  • Be over 18 years old.
  • Have a good command of French and English.
  • Be able to swim or be comfortable in a pool.
  • Have at least three years of experience working in a day camp.
  • Be a student or graduate in recreation and recreation (asset).

KEY SKILLS

  • Be able to support the growth of campers in activities;
  • Participate in teamwork and ensure a good work atmosphere;
  • Be responsible and adhere to YMCA ethical standards;
  • Take initiative and demonstrate leadership;
  • Guide, motivate and inspire campers.

FOR YOUR PROFESSIONAL GROWTH, THE YMCA DAY CAMPS OFFER:

  • The opportunity to work at the location of your choice: Downtown YMCA (YMCA International Language School, Cartierville YMCA, Concordia University (downtown campus), Du Parc YMCA, Notre-Dame-de-Grâce YMCA, Pointe- Saint-Charles, Westmount YMCA, and Borough of Pierrefonds-Roxboro (3 sites).
  • An hourly wage of $ 17.75.
  • Fees for first aid, CPR and rescue training (if you’re not already certified), as training is a prerequisite for the position. Please note, however, that training time is unpaid.
  • Variable working hours: Monday to Friday, mornings and late afternoons – 25 to 40 hours a week as needed.
  • Meetings and training to guide and support you: May 4 (signature of contract) and evenings and weekends during the month of June.

Duration of employment: From June 23 to August 22, 2025* * Some camps may end earlier.
