Chief Estimator – Construction
A leading construction firm is seeking a Chief Estimator to join its dynamic team. This role is pivotal in delivering successful projects across a range of sectors by providing comprehensive estimating services from conceptual design through to final bid submission. The successful candidate will support project development, operations, and estimating teams, contributing to a variety of contract types including construction management, design-build, lump sum, and integrated project delivery (IPD).
Location: Edmonton
Key Responsibilities:
- Solicit, review, and level subcontractor and supplier quotes.
- Maintain strong relationships with subcontractors and suppliers.
- Prepare detailed and accurate estimates, including quantity takeoffs and unit pricing.
- Participate in client meetings and project interviews.
- Collaborate with engineers, architects, and clients to refine cost estimates and project approaches.
- Develop proposals and risk mitigation plans.
- Mentor junior staff and assist in training the estimating team.
- Support software upgrades and maintain estimating tools.
- Contribute to project team meetings and career development planning.
Skills & Knowledge:
- Strong multitasking and time management abilities.
- Effective communication and leadership in team settings.
- Proficiency in estimating and scheduling software (e.g., OST, Bluebeam, Microsoft Scheduler; InEight is an asset).
- Deep understanding of construction materials, methods, and cost-saving alternatives.
- Ability to visualize and design projects from client requirements.
- Familiarity with lean construction principles and risk analysis.
Qualifications:
- Post-secondary education in Engineering or a related construction discipline.
- 10+ years of experience in general construction estimating.
- Experience in project coordination or management is an asset.
- Proven ability to lead teams and manage complex estimating tasks.
