The salary range for this position is:
- Recruitment range: $65,860- $72,607 maximum starting salary is determined through knowledge, experience and internal equity.
- Performance range: $85,633 salary range ceiling is available through annual performance increases.
Job Summary
Reporting to the Associate Director, Sport Compliance and Student Support, the Sports Information Coordinator writes, coordinates and archives sports information communication following Canada West, U SPORTS, NAIA and any other Vikes competition policies & guidelines, working closely with the Vikes Communications Officer. Alongside story writing and website maintenance, the Sports Information Coordinator is also responsible for webcasting needs per competition policies and is required to have strong knowledge in technology as it pertains to camera equipment and webcasting requirements as well as score keeping and reporting duties for all home events.
Due to the competition schedule of varsity athletics, this position requires flexibility to work outside of usual 9-5 working hours per the Vikes competition schedules. Time in lieu will be available and most other administrative duties will take place within regular office working hours.
Job Requirements
Undergraduate degree in public relations or communications, and at least 2 years’ experience in communications and media relations.
Experience requirements include:
- Strong writing experience
- In depth knowledge of local, regional and national sport media
- Use of relevant computer software including FIBA LiveStats, PrestoSports, StatCrew, Reely, InDesign, Photoshop, content management systems (SideArm Sports) and webcast production, or similar systems
- Knowledge of Canada West and U SPORTS game operation and playing regulations.
- Understanding and use of Social Media platforms, their respective participants (Facebook, Twitter, Yelp, Google+, YouTube, Instagram, Pinterest etc.) and how each platform can be deployed in different scenarios
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Competency requirements include:
- Excellent analytical, critical thinking and problem solving skills
- Superior communication skills, both written and verbal
- Ability to build and maintain productive working relationships with all stakeholders
- Ability to work quickly and collaboratively under pressure with multiple deadlines
- A positive and flexible team player willing to work evenings and weekends as dictated by event schedules
- Proven track record achieving project goals on time and producing deliverables of a high quality
- Ability to work effectively with a diverse population and with all levels of university personnel
- Demonstrated administrative and organizational skills
Assets or Preferences:
- Experience from a post-secondary or similarly large and complex organization, professional or university athletics environment that includes sports information, departmental communications and/or marketing.
- Experience in broadcast production.
