Visual Arts Teacher

Location: Burnaby, BC
Start Date: June 30, 2025
Duration: 8 weeks
Hours: 35 hours/week
Wage: $17.40/hour

Job Description

CentreCanada is hiring a Visual Arts Teacher to lead creative art workshops for youth in its 2025 Summer School program. This role centers on encouraging cultural expression, imagination, and identity through painting, drawing, sculpture, and other visual mediums. The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic about youth-led creativity and community storytelling.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design age-appropriate visual arts lessons and hands-on projects
  • Teach foundational techniques in a variety of art forms (drawing, mixed media, sculpture, etc.)
  • Help students express their stories and identities through art
  • Encourage creative risk-taking and experimentation
  • Organize individual and collaborative pieces for a final exhibition or showcase
  • Manage classroom materials and maintain a clean, welcoming art space
  • Collaborate with other instructors to integrate art into cross-curricular activities
  • Other duties as assigned, such as supporting community art initiatives or preparing for events

CentreCanada Newcomer Services Society is a community-based, not-for-profit organization dedicated to supporting the settlement, education, and integration of newcomer families across the Lower Mainland. Through inclusive programming, mentorship, and educational services, we work to empower youth, strengthen families, and build bridges between communities. Our summer school program provides newcomer youth with enriching, supportive, and skill-building experiences that prepare them for success both inside and outside the classroom.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience teaching or facilitating art activities for youth
  • Passion for inclusive education and community engagement through creativity
  • Ability to adapt art instruction to all skill levels and cultural perspectives
  • Turkish language fluency strongly preferred
  • Experience working with newcomer youth or community art programs

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $17.85 per hour

Expected hours: 35 per week
