ABOUT THE POSITION:
We are seeking candidates who are compassionate, caring and who can understand the challenges our patients and their families face. As the ideal candidate you are a pharmacy assistant who is responsible for assisting the pharmacy team in the preparations of medications and supporting them with optimal patient care. Working within a busy pharmacy or clinical environment, you have excellent communication and time-management skills.
GENERAL PHARMACY-
YOUR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Answering telephones, forwarding calls, taking messages, assisting customers, stocking shelves, operating cash registers, cleaning work areas and sterilizing containers.
- Order medications, organize supplies, label drugs
- Work directly with patient data, prepare insurance forms, maintain patient profiles
- Provide patient assistance for technical non-regulated functions as required (e.g., showing location of an OTC product) while ensuring that a pharmacist is consulted for all patient therapeutic issues. Administrative duties include the following: Banking & POS functions: operating POS, monitoring charge accounts, account reconciliation, etc
- Data entry and billing of prescriptions using Kroll Pharmacy Software ensuring that required documentation is complete, including third-party billing restrictions, co-payment management, and coordination of benefits
- Assist with the management and reconciliation of inventory
- Other duties as assigned by the Designated Manager or dispensing pharmacist(s)
WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO HAVE:
- Completion of secondary school (diploma)
- Provision of a recent and acceptable Criminal Reference Check.
- Proficiency in using Microsoft platform, particularly Outlook, Word, and Excel.
- Previous Pharmacy and Kroll experience is an asset.
- Must be able to stand for long periods of time.
- Demonstrated decision-making skills.
- Excellent communication (verbal and written), organizational, and time management skills.
- Demonstrated ability to remain calm and poised in urgent situations.
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
- Strong attention to detail.
-SHIPPING -
YOUR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Preparing prescriptions for sign off by a pharmacy technician or pharmacist according to pharmacy workflow and procedures:
- Receiving written prescriptions and inputting them into the computer system.
- Resolving third-party billing issues.
- Measuring, mixing, packaging, and labelling drugs.
- Pre-packaging medications (e.g., methadone, unit-dose medications).
- Assist the dispensing pharmacist in the safe and effective delivery of medication, including:
- Ensuring prescriptions are only provided to patients once the therapeutic check by a pharmacist has been performed
- Communicating with clients and physicians as needed
- Answering telephones and taking messages
- Receiving and sending electronic or fax communications, and general filing
- Data entry and billing of prescriptions using Kroll Pharmacy Software ensuring that required documentation is complete, including third-party billing restrictions, co-payment management, and coordination of benefits
- Assist with the management and reconciliation of inventory
- Other duties as assigned by the Designated Manager or dispensing pharmacist(s)
WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO HAVE:
- Completion of a Pharmacy Assistant College diploma and/or equivalent of a minimum 2 years of relevant work experience
- Experience using Kroll Pharmacy Software
- Provision of a recent and acceptable Criminal Reference Check.
- Proficiency in using Microsoft platform, particularly Outlook, Word, and Excel.
- Demonstrated patient-centered pharmacy practice skills.
- Demonstrated decision-making skills.
- Excellent communication (verbal and written), organizational, and time management skills.
