About the role

The OHRI has an opening for a full-time research technician in the Human Pluripotent Stem Cell Core, led by Dr. William Stanford. This position’s primary purpose will be to generate new cell lines in the human pluripotent stem cell platform that will be applied in modeling human disease research for various research teams working within the core facility. The technician will perform a variety of technical duties, the majority of which will be tissue culture related, but will also include molecular biology and biochemical techniques for quality control and validation of derived cell types. The successful candidate will implement cutting edge technologies in reprogramming of primary cells to iPSC, CRISPR engineering, and a wide variety of differentiations for all users of the core facility, providing an extraordinary opportunity to learn and grow with the position and the broad application to a large number of projects. The successful candidate will be highly motivated, organized, possess an acute attention to detail with a strong work ethic and interpersonal skills. They will join a multidisciplinary team working on a broad collection of projects including, developmental, aging, and degenerative diseases.

Basic Requirements (Education/Experience):

  • A minimum of a three-year college diploma, or BSc in biological science combined with experience in cell culture, based and quality control assays.
  • 1-5 years of experience working in a research laboratory
  • Possess excellent sterile technique and experience in mammalian cell culture.
  • Experience in basic molecular cloning, immunofluorescent microscopy, PCR, gel electrophoresis.
  • Outstanding organization skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage a large number of samples.
  • Excellent record keeping and ability to use an electronic database.
  • Time management skills and flexibility with respect to multitasking.
  • Ability to work both independently and in teams.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work a shifted week i.e. Tuesday to Saturday.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in human pluripotent stem cell culture.
  • Experience in biobank maintenance or related skill sets.
  • Experience in CRISPR gene editing.
  • Experience in quality control.

Contract Details:
This is a 1-year full-time contract.
Salary: Min: $29.718 - Max: $39.624
