Job Title: Assistant Controller – Manufacturing
Location: Toronto
Job Type: Full-Time
Position Summary:
The Assistant Controller will oversee core accounting functions, including general ledger, cost accounting, inventory, and month-end close. This individual will play a crucial role in ensuring accurate financial reporting and compliance, as well as in streamlining processes and supporting the company’s growth initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage day-to-day accounting operations including AP, AR, GL, and payroll
- Oversee cost accounting, inventory valuation, and standard costing activities
- Assist in month-end and year-end close processes and ensure timely reporting
- Prepare and review financial statements, reconciliations, and journal entries
- Support the Controller in managing audits, tax filings, and compliance requirements
- Lead continuous improvement projects to enhance reporting accuracy and efficiency
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis
- Ensure adherence to internal controls and company accounting policies
- Supervise and mentor accounting staff
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA) is an advantage.
- 3+ years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 2 years in manufacturing.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, cost accounting, and financial reporting.
- Experience with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, Microsoft Dynamics).
- Proficiency in Excel and financial analysis tools.
- Excellent problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, hands-on manufacturing environment.
- Working experience in automotive industry would be an asset
