Your Opportunity Due North is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer to improve our refrigerator assembly process. This role focuses on enhancing sheet metal manufacturing techniques, work cells, and assembly lines to boost production capacity. Please note travel between the Georgetown and Brampton sites is required. Main Duties & Responsibilities

  • Draw on past success to implement productivity and workflow improvement initiatives
  • Identify improvements for existing manufacturing processes and equipment, including conducting a cost-benefit analysis for review and approval by senior management.
  • Design for Manufacturing/Assembly (DFM/A) improvements for existing products, including performing an economic evaluation for approval and enforcing Design for Manufacturability/Assembly (DFM/A) principles during design reviews and new product launches.
  • Ensure assembly processes adhere to lean manufacturing principles such as Value Stream Mapping, Five S, Kanban, and poka-yoke.
  • Develop methods to balance production lines effectively to enhance workflow and minimize bottlenecks.
  • Implement strategies to decrease direct labour hours in appliance manufacturing, maximizing resource efficiency and optimizing worker performance. Analyze workflow and recommend improvements in assembly lines, shop layout and material handling.
  • Conduct manufacturing in Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA) working with the Quality Department, applying to manufacturing process improvements.
  • Develop assembly flow charts, control plans and work instructions or supervise the creation of these outputs for manufacturing or rework activities.
  • Support the Quality and procurement department in qualifying and selecting new suppliers by thoroughly evaluating their material, manufacturing or equipment capabilities.
  • Sign off on work standards for product costing and productivity measurement.
  • Create Engineering Change Notices (ECN) related to manufacturing process improvements.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

You Have

  • Engineering or technical degree in the appropriate field (Mechanical or equivalent)
  • 10-15 years of experience as a Manufacturing Engineer in a high-volume manufacturing environment.
  • Experience of taking at least one project through manufacturing launch, plus at least one year of subsequent production.
  • Training in DFM/A techniques.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD for drafting and designing technical drawings is required.
  • Expertise in Lean Manufacturing Techniques.
  • Experience in manufacturing environments that encompass flat steel fabrication, various electrical components, motor and compressor subassemblies, as well as final line assembly in compliance with regulatory standards, is considered highly valuable.
  • Experience of participation in a product development team from inception to manufacturing launch, including evidence of the imposition of DFM/A into the design.
  • Knowledge of the requirements of TS16949 and ISO9000.
  • Knowledge and execution experience of APQP, PPAP, PFMEA, Control Plans, and Process Flow.
