Purpose:
The Pharmacy Assistant, Specialty is primarily responsible for dispensary duties including prescription entry/processing, picking/packaging and shipping of medications, answering telephone calls, assisting in payment processing, maintaining inventory, and other administrative duties as required to support the pharmacy team.
The Pharmacy Assistant, Specialty is required to work independently under direction from the Operations or Pharmacy Manager, as well as within a team. All roles will be cross trained as permitted by scope of practice, and the incumbent may be required to help out in other areas of the pharmacy when required.

Salary: Hourly, commensurate with experience
Job Responsibilities:
- Accurate processing of prescriptions for all programs/medications, including following up on ODB and insurance billing issues and working with the reimbursement team regarding verification with third-party payers/patient support programs
- Label, pick and package prescriptions in accordance with standard operating procedures to ensure supply to patients in a safe, efficient, and accurate manner
- Prepare medications for shipping, including packing into cold chain coolers
- Inventory management and reconciliation which includes ordering, maintaining and organizing appropriate inventory and packaging supplies to support dispensing
- Accurate reconciliation of consignment (emergency doses) inventory after every injection clinic where relevant; immediately contact clinic and BDM if discrepancy is identified.
- Assist with ODB and Trillium co-pay collection when needed as per established process
- Provide exemplary customer service to clinic staff, nurses and physicians primarily by phone/email
- Work with the operations team to arrange for delivery services/couriers so that prescriptions and supplies are received on-time by clinics or patients
- Develop and maintain professional relationships with health care professionals, reimbursement coordinators, private payers and patients
- Call patients to schedule delivery of refills/renewals of medications when relevant
- Work collaboratively with the BDM (Business Development Manager) team to ensure clinic processes and requirements are clear and updated as needed.
- Understand and use ePrescribe portal where relevant
Qualifications:

Minimum 1-2 years’ experience in pharmacy setting required

Experience with Kroll preferred

Knowledge and understanding of specialty medications and processes along with third-party billing issues is considered an asset

Bilingualism (French and English) is preferred.
Skills:
- Strong computer skills in a Windows environment using MS Office (Excel, Word)
- Excellent phone etiquette and interpersonal skills
- Highly organized with strong attention to detail
- Proven ability to self-manage time, set priorities and multi-task to meet various competing work deadlines
- Ability to perform all technical duties involved in the successful dispensing of medications
- This position requires a significant degree of self-starting and independence
