Reporting to the Associate Deputy Minister/Deputy Secretary to Cabinet, the Director, Policy is accountable for the leadership, oversight, administration, and management of the services provided by the Policy Division and ensures the mandates of the Department and Division are met. The Director provides support and strategic advice to Cabinet committees and sub-committees at the ministerial or senior management levels, the Deputy Ministers' Committee and other deputy level committees, and chairs interdepartmental policy committees as required.

The Director is responsible for the coordination and policy support to Cabinet and the Premier, leadership on the development of government wide policy capacity and innovation, reviews and make recommendations on the machinery of government, and provides strategic advice on government wide processes. The Director is also expected to provide departments and senior managers across government with independent advice on advancing the government's mandate and initiatives that have broad cross-departmental implications and for incorporating Inuit Societal Values into the day-to day operations of the Policy Division and the Department.

The knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this job are usually obtained through a recognized undergraduate degree in political science, business, public administration, law, social sciences or a related field, plus five (5) years of experience in policy development and analysis, along with four years of management experience. A master’s degree in a related field is an asset. This is a Position of Trust and a satisfactory Criminal Record Check is required.

The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktut, English and French. Applicants may submit their resume in any of the official languages of Nunavut. Fluency in more than one of Nunavut’s official languages would be considered an asset. Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land,Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktut and experience working in a northern cross-cultural environment are also considered assets.
