The Opportunity
Reporting directly to the Supervisor, Court Services, this role is responsible for providing court administration support within the Ontario Court of Justice to the standards required by the Memorandum of Understanding with the province, and for being the primary point of contact for all matters regarding Provincial Offences administration. This position is also responsible for providing client service and support and assisting all persons involved in the day-to-day operations of the court, including determining and responding to their needs and explaining requirements and procedures.
As the Coordinator, Provincial Offences you will perform the following duties, including but not limited to:
Functional Responsibilities:
- Review, accept, enter and file all incoming Part I and Part III charges as filed by various enforcement agencies including red light Camera and Automated Speed Enforcement offences. Ensuring strict adherence to statutory time limits.
- Liaise with enforcement agencies to return matters filed contrary to statutory requirements.
- Handle/resolve difficult situations in a professional manner utilizing knowledge of legislation, by-laws, policies and procedures whether in person, by telephone or in writing.
- Provide customer support such as responding to telephone, email, and counter inquiries, processing fine payments, de-escalate emotionally charged situations, and preparing deposits up to $10,000.
- Verify all documents are in compliance with the Provincial Offences Act prior to accepting for filing.
- Schedule trials and early resolutions.
- Book interpreters to assist the public upon request.
- Act as Exhibit Custodian by maintaining, recording, and returning exhibits according to the Ministry of the Attorney General’s guidelines.
- Perform other duties as assigned, aligned with organizational values.
The Ideal Candidate
We are seeking experienced professionals with a post-secondary diploma in Courts Administration or closely related field. Our ideal candidate has a minimum 3 years’ experience in a legal environment and a minimum of 1 year being in a municipal setting.
The ideal candidates will have demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills involving occasional ingenuity, & refinement of procedures. We are seeking an individual with computer proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and knowledge of ICON and CAMS.
The successful candidate for Coordinator, Provincial Offences will be required to work a flexible schedule, including in the office, remotely and after hours (as required).
The one (1) permanent full-time position offers a salary range of $67,259.33 to $84,074.16 plus a competitive benefit package.
The one (1) contract position (Up to 18 Months) offers an hourly range of $36.96 to $46.19.
Satisfactory passing of a criminal record check, and proof of qualifications will be required of any successful candidate(s) for this position.
