The Opportunity
Reporting to the Lab Manager, the Distribution and Inventory Coordinator, will be responsible for the daily operation of the loading dock area and managing the procurement process of the Office of Applied Research Innovation IEIC lab. Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to providing strong customer service, ensuring timely acquisition of supplies, maintaining optimal inventory levels to support the lab operation, shipping and receiving items, recording all deliveries into an arrival system for tracking purposes for delivery on campus and courier shipping for outgoing material. This role high level of safety execution in all activities inventory control, and strong communication.
The Role

- Stock & Inventory Maintenance
- Maintain inventory of hazardous chemicals and complete Transport of Dangerous Goods (TDG) documentation
- Verify incoming shipments and store items appropriately
- Distribute supplies to labs and manage returns to vendors
- Keep storage areas clean, organized, and in good condition
- Order and manage supplies for Site Stores, chemicals, and gas cylinders
- Support occasional disposal of materials and chemicals
- Monitor inventory levels and implement tracking systems
- Conduct audits and resolve order discrepancies
- Prepare inventory reports and collaborate with lab staff to meet supply needs
- Administrative duties
- Handle courier invoicing, outgoing shipments, and daily inspection logs
- Provide front-line support and respond to staff inquiries
- Assist with meeting room AV setup and general service coordination
- Collaborate with finance/admin teams on budgets and procurement compliance
- Safety and Emergency Procedures
- Ensure all shipping/receiving follows SAIT safety policies and procedures
- Act as primary contact for reporting hazards, incidents, and failures
- Conduct daily safety checks of dock doors, plates, and loading areas
- Maintain safety equipment (First Aid Kits, Eye Wash Stations)
- Support emergency response, evacuation drills, and fire warden reviews
- Manage mat, towel, and lab coat services; attend monthly safety meetings
- Loading Dock Operations
- Control dock access and ensure secure, compliant deliveries
- Inspect incoming shipments for damage and WHMIS/TDG compliance
- Operate dock equipment safely and maintain a clean, hazard-free area
- Coordinate shipments, deliveries, and yard safety with internal/external partners
- Customer Support and Special Assignments
- Support the issue of temporary access passes to staff.
- Address and resolve general inquiries and concerns.
- Assist with proper disposal of materials and chemicals.
- Support additional projects and service-related tasks as needed.
Qualifications

- Minimum
- Diploma in high school
- 2-3 years in inventory control (including handling hazardous material/ chemical supplies), stock keeping; shipping and receiving, logistics or distribution support
- Preferred
- Certificate or Diploma in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, or Warehousing
- Certification

- Forklift Operator Certification

- Spotter Processes/Hand Signals
- Transportation of Dangerous Goods

- Narrow Reach Truck Certification
- Electric Pallet Truck Certification
- Specific Skills
- Positions require skill in basic inventory management including knowledge of shipping, receiving and storage procedures. Ability to utilize on-line inventory system is necessary. Positions may be required to handle heavy materials and operate various types of mechanical equipment. Organizational skills, basic knowledge of department regulations and procedures along with the ability to communicate effectively is also required
