About the role

Lotus Group is proud to partner with our valued and established Edmonton based client in search of an experienced Controller for their Spruce Grove offices.

The Controller will be responsible for performing day-to-day financial operations and works closely with the leadership team in supporting strategic operations. The successful candidate will be a self starter, intuitive, pivotable and have an ability to be innovative in their approach to processes and procedures. The role will be working on monthly financial reporting, bank reconciliations, forecasting, and month end and year end responsibilities.

Role Responsibilities

  • Provides full cycle accounting and maintains day to day accounting operations.
  • Provide technical oversight for reporting, analysis and capital expenditures including monthly reporting, financial forecasts, and utilization reporting.
  • Manage cash flow, invoicing, and ensure timely payment of bills and expenses.
  • Weekly updates of cash-flow forecasts and ensuring accurate predictions of cash requirements.
  • Prepare and review financial statements and ensure accurate financial data review and reconciliation per ASPE.
  • Recognize areas of improvement and identify opportunities for increased efficiencies.
  • Oversee and assist with AR/AP
  • Maintaining annual budgets and financial forecasting.
  • Manage Payroll including an analysis on labor spend Vs. budget as well as creating and posting payroll Journal Entries.
  • Employee Benefits Administration.
  • Implement process improvements to improve accuracy, speed, or compliance.
  • Develop and implement internal accounting policies and procedures.
  • Prepare and continually improve the monthly management reporting package in a timely accurate manner.
  • Perform standard and ad hoc financial analyses to support management decision-making.
  • Lead and participate in ad-hoc projects as required.

Role Requirements

  • Bachelors Degree with a major in Accounting or Finance.
  • Chartered Professional Accounting (CPA) designation is required.
  • 7+ years of industry experience is considered an asset.
  • A strong background in Management accounting and division reporting is required.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously, meet deadlines, and thrive in a high paced environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and highly organized.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Expert use of Excel and knowledgeable in MS Word.
  • Experience working on various accounting software programs considered an asset
