WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING:

The medical secretary is responsible for all clerical, secretarial, reception, and administrative support to the Laboratory Services Pathology department.

Duties include Medical Transcription of surgical pathology reports, autopsy reports and correspondence; preparation of specimens for transport; administrative support to Pathologists and Pathology Department; retrieval and package of surgical pathology slides and blocks for transfer to various other facilities; maintaining accurate shipping log of specimens and ensuring the accuracy of information communicated from Pathology dept.

WHAT YOU MUST HAVE:

  • Medical Office Administration/Health Care Office Administration certificate required

  • At least one (1) year experience within the last three (3) years of Medical Secretary experience

  • Knowledge of medical terminology

  • Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills, including excellent telephone etiquette and organizational skills

  • Proven ability to work in a fast-paced, multi-task environment with minimal supervision utilizing effective organizational and problem-solving skills;

  • Ability to adapt and work within a constantly changing environment.

  • Demonstrated computer knowledge and skills (Electronic Patient Record, Cerner, Powerchart, Microsoft Office, Outlook, and Internet/Intranet Usage).

  • Demonstrated ability to seek, explore and implement continuous improvement opportunities relating to office efficiencies in conjunction with the interprofessional team

  • Demonstrated ability to attend work on a regular basis as per the STEGH Attendance Management Policy

  • Demonstrates a fit with STEGH values

WHAT WE PREFER YOU HAVE:

  • Crucial Conversations training or willing to obtain

  • Lean Yellow Belt training

HOURS:

Must be able to meet the availability and non-availability requirements outlined in the OPSEU Clerical Collective Agreement.
