Policy Advisor - Local Immigration Partnership

Reporting to the Manager, Local Immigration Partnership, the successful applicant will be responsible for providing policy advise, analysis, and program implementation and evaluation support to the Region of Durham's Local Immigration Partnership (LIP). The applicant will assist with the execution of the LIP's 2025-2030 Community and Inclusion Plan and related activities to immigration and settlement policy in Durham Region.

The incumbent will:

-Lead project management and support implementation, data collection, and evaluation of the 2025-2030 Community and Inclusion Plan

-Apply knowledge of immigration and settlement policy to monitor provincial and federal legislation and policy changes related to immigration and settlement and assess its impact on Regional policies and practices

-Support immigration-focused data and research initiatives, including identifying and developing research partnerships with external stakeholders

-Investigate, monitor trends, and apply best practices and innovative approaches to address social and community issues

-Assist with data analysis and service coordination for the Region's humanitarian response program for asylum seekers

-Engage and manage successful internal and external stakeholder relationships by supporting the LIP network, advisory groups, and committees

-Support the development and implementation communications strategies including online platforms, social media, traditional media, and print

-Develop, organize, and provide project management support to community planning, education, and engagement activities that aim strengthen Durham's non-profit sector

-Help facilitate equity, diversity, and inclusion efforts in the broader Durham community

-Seek funding opportunities and write proposals

The successful candidate will possess:

-A degree in Social Sciences, Public Policy and Administration, or related discipline

-A Master's Degree would be considered an asset

-Progressively responsible experience in policy development, project leadership, or stakeholder engagement

-Experience with and a solid understanding immigration and settlement policy and diversity, equity, and inclusion principles

-Superior written communication and policy analysis skills with significant experience developing policy materials such as issue and briefing notes, evaluation reports, and discussion papers

-A demonstrated ability to deliver and facilitate clear, compelling presentations to a range of audiences, including senior officials, stakeholders, and the public, in both small group settings and large forums

-A demonstrated ability to successfully develop, manage, and maintain internal and external stakeholder relationships

-A demonstrated ability to lead multiple large projects or bodies of work including consultations and strategic planning

-Experience addressing and communicating to multiple audience's complex information

-Knowledge of research, evaluation, measurement methodologies and information gathering techniques

-Solid knowledge of the not-for-profit sector and the municipal/regional environment

-Solid knowledge of the provincial and federal funding landscape

-Proven ability to think strategically and assess the implications of various options

Management & Exempt Salary Grade 6

  • Salary: $105,411 to $131,764 per annum
