About the role
The Opportunity
Under the supervision of the Manager, Plant Maintenance & Operations the Electrician maintains, repairs, install and removes high and low voltage switchgear, transformers, circuit breakers, fusing arrangements, wiring, fire alarm system, electric motors, installs data lines, emergency power systems, computer systems, telephone and electrical control circuitry. Installs electrical services to minor renovation and construction projects, and co-ordinates electrical installations on minor projects with outside contractors. Responsible for maintaining electrical conductors, buss bars and wring systems as pertains to property of the IWK Health Centre, electrical outlets and fixtures, electrical lighting systems, electrical equipment in the kitchen, electrical systems in the penthouses and nurse call system. Supervise a general maintenance worker when working with a helper.
Hours of Work
Monday to Friday, 0800-1600, 7.5 hour shifts
Your Qualifications
- High School Diploma or G.E.D. required.
- Certified Journeyman Electrician as issued by the Nova Scotia Department of Labour, or equivalent required.
- Complete and thorough knowledge of the current edition of the National Electrical code.
- Five (5) years industry experience in a similar position.
- Demonstrated knowledge of electrical, plumbing, refrigeration and carpentry trades required.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently required.
- Demonstrated initiative required.
- Demonstrated team player with strong interpersonal and communication skills required.
- Ability to meet physical demands (constant walking, routinely lifting/pushing/pulling of approximately 50 lbs, constant bending, working off ladders) required.
- Industry experience in a similar position in a health care environment preferred.
- Competencies in other languages an asset.
