Position Summary:
We are seeking a highly organized and proactive Logistics Coordinator to manage and optimize the transportation and distribution of scrap metal materials. This role is vital to ensuring efficient collection, inbound and outbound logistics, compliance with environmental and safety regulations, and coordination with suppliers, customers, and transportation providers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate daily logistics operations including pickups, deliveries, and shipments of scrap metals.
  • Schedule and dispatch trucks, containers, and railcars in accordance with production and customer requirements.
  • Communicate with suppliers, carriers, and internal teams to ensure timely and cost-effective transportation.
  • Monitor third-party carrier performance, ensuring adherence to safety and compliance standards.
  • Maintain accurate records of shipments, weights, grades of metal, and associated documentation.
  • Assist in managing logistics costs, negotiate with transportation vendors, and monitor fuel surcharges and market rates.
  • Work closely with scale house, yard supervisors, and operations staff to ensure seamless material flow.
  • Track and resolve shipping issues, delivery delays, or inventory discrepancies.
  • Ensure compliance with DOT regulations, environmental guidelines, and company policies.
  • Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly logistics reports for management review.
  • Ensure efficient Asset Management i.e. Insurance, Inspection and Maintenance of the assets.
  • Operate and Manage scale house to process inbound and outbound trucks.

Qualifications:

  • Education: High school diploma required; associate’s or bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or related field preferred.
  • Experience: 2+ years of experience in logistics, transportation, or supply chain; experience in metal recycling or industrial environment is a strong plus.
  • Skills:
  • Proficiency in logistics software, GPS tracking systems, and MS Office (especially Excel).
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Knowledge of DOT regulations and environmental compliance is an advantage.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to work in an industrial environment with exposure to dust, noise, and outdoor weather conditions.
  • May require occasional lifting, standing, and walking in yard areas.

The Fort St. John yard is located at 9623 78th Street. This yard provides Industrial Obsolete and Demo Scrap Services, Demolition and Dismantling Services, Mobile Bailing Car Crushing and Shearing, Rail Car Loading and more. Truck and rail access are both available.

Our Prince George yard located at 1004 Eastern Street, offers much of the same great Ferrous Metal Recycling and Non-Ferrous Metal Recycling services as our other 3 yards. With services such as Stevedoring, Trucking Boxes and Roll off Container Services, Certified Destruction Capabilities and more, this yard also provides truck and rail access.
