About the role

This posting is for Auxiliary on Call positions. Auxiliaries provide coverage for leave of absences, and for short notice vacancies. Please note, as an auxiliary on-call employee there are no guarantee of hours.

An eligibility list will be created for 6 months for similar positions.

This opportunity

Reporting to the Coordinator Food Services, this position is responsible for the provision of food services to the residents and staff in Continuing Care facilities; including the preparation, cooking and serving of meals, while maintaining a high standard of sanitation and safety in the kitchen and other related duties as required.

Essential qualifications

Please submit your resume clearly demonstrating how you meet the qualifications below. Selections for further consideration will be based solely on the information you provide in your resume.

  • Journeyman Cook Certification (Red Seal)
  • Recent experience preparing meals for individuals and/or groups in a commercial or Institutional setting (such as hotel, restaurant, camp, catering or cafeteria setting (fast food restaurant not included)

Candidates who have education, training, and/or experience equivalent to the essential qualifications listed above may be considered.

Desired knowledge, skills and suitability

If selected for an interview, candidates should have, and may be assessed on, the following:

  • Knowledge of food preparation, serving and storage (Food safe)

  • Ability to understand written and oral instructions

  • Ability to work in a team environment

  • Self-motivated and adaptable to change

Conditions of employment

You must meet the following conditions before being hired, or within the time frame noted.

TB screening, RCMP security clearance with Vulnerable Sector, Food Safe Level 1 (completed within the last two years), WHMIS 2015

Job requirements

This job requires you to perform, and/or be exposed to, the following:

Exposure to animals in the Pet Therapy program, exposure to plants and/or flowers and/or second-hand smoke, exposure to latex products, shift work and weekends, heavy lifting and bending.
