This role sits within Laurentian Bank.

The incumbent is responsible for monitoring operational risks at the corporate level for the Bank and its subsidiaries.

Responsibilities

  • Champion the design and implementation of enhancements to the Operational Risk Management program and its underlying components.
  • Build strong, collaborative relationships with key stakeholders and partners by addressing issues and concerns in a timely manner and providing on-going advisory services.
  • Follow and monitor operational risk issues (risk incidents, risk indicators, risk appetite).
  • Support the reporting to management and appropriate committees on the major issues and trends of the operational risk profile.
  • Support the business in analysing root causes of operational risk events and issues and ensure corrective action plans are developed and implemented.
  • Review and monitor internal risk events and ensure they are logged in a timely manner.
  • Support the business in implementing the requirements for Risk and Control Self Assessments.
  • Evaluate and recommend new controls where gaps have been identified.
  • Work with business units to develop key risk indicators.
  • Provide second line of defense oversight for significant initiatives, risk events, risk and control self assessments and scenario analyses.
  • Develop a strong understanding of risk application ("Resolver") and be the primary contact for support for business users.
  • Contribute to the overall Operational Risk Management education by developing training programs and executing them across the Bank.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to team members.
  • Stay informed on the latest operational risk techniques and industry best practices.
  • Take part in internal and external committees or activities and represent the Bank to various organizations or stakeholders.
  • Perform all tasks of similar or general nature requested by his or her superior required for the job.

Qualifications

  • University degree in a relevant field and seven to 10 years of relevant experience

  • In-depth knowledge of operational risks, internal auditing and/or internal control frameworks (COSO and COBIT)

  • In-depth knowledge of banking products

  • Strong analytical skills with a pragmatic approach

  • Client (internal) and quality-focused

  • Solid communication and relationship management skills

  • Team player and proactive

  • Bilingualism both spoken and written
