Overview: The Material Handler operates mobile power equipment to pick orders, puts away pallets, stage pallets for production, moves materials throughout the plant while using programs to transfer inventory, record issues and ensures accurate completion of documents and records.
- Starting hourly rate is $25.90 + $0.90 in shift premium
- Shift hours are 9:30 PM -6:00 AM, ½ hour lunch break unpaid
Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Working in the Warehouse
· Ensure that all inbound commodities, raw materials, finished goods, general merchandise and other inventory is placed in the allocated location in a timely and efficient manner
· Follow the put away procedures – an inventory tag for every pallet and record location in the system
· Ensure all picking location are replenished with enough stock to fill customer orders
· Order picking - ensuring that the pick is accurate and complete
· Build and wrap pallets are per company procedure and direction, and tag all skids
· Stage all picked orders on the shipping dock according to a pre-determined lay-out
· Remove all damaged freight and place in the assigned location, repalletizing when needed
· Pick up finished product from the production floor and disperse to assigned location
· Fill the daily shorts list when required
· Audit every short in the system to ensure there is no overstock location for any item
· Record all code dates, best before dates or lot numbers on the bill of lading
· Stock replenishment
· Record number and type of pallet used for a picked order
· Record shipping dock line where order is staged
· Sign off the BOL
· Unload trailers and containers as assigned
Working in Production
· Follow FIFO for all issuing materials
· Issue materials to workstation
· Return materials, attaching relevant tags
· Complete and sign off on task cards
· Cover and transfer all WIP totes to and from the tote room
· Place and remove WIP from stands
· Ensure all bins are empty before leaving from workstation
· Communicate with the QA Department when product is on hold
· Assist in variance report investigation and work order closing
· Assist other team members in Production when needed
All Material Handlers
· Participate in annual inventory
· Maintain your assigned aisle as per Company standards
· Assist in the training and knowledge share to new hires
· Follow HACCP procedures and complete all required documentation
· Complete mobile equipment certifications as assigned and schedule by the Company
· Operate mobile equipment as per certification and Health & Safety policies and procedures
· Responsible for Trophy mobile equipment while in operation as directed, completing required pre-start checklists
· Maintain neat and tidy workplace at all times
· Comply with Trophy Health & Safety Program policies and procedures
· Comply with other duties as assigned by Manager, Supervisor or Lead Hand
Experience, Qualifications, and Educational Requirements:
· High school diploma and/or 1-2 years related experience as a material handler in a food manufacturing environment.
· Valid Forklift Certificate and 1-2 years experience operating a forklift.
· Experience with Stand-Up Counterbalance certification considered an asset.
· Basic English skills are required to read and comprehend standard operating procedures, trouble shooting manuals, instructions, short memos, verbal communication, etc. Ability to write simple correspondence and ability to effectively present information one on one or in small groups.
Physical Effort:
- Standing/ walking the entire shift. Bending, reaching and climbing stairs at times. Frequently lifting and/or moving up to 50 pounds and occasionally lifting over 100 lbs to heights at waist level with assistance.
Work Environment:
· Constant exposure to noise levels over 85dB, airborne particles, vibrations, and humidity.
· Regular exposure to moving mechanical parts. Continuous and constant noise that is above 80dBA (loud). Hearing protection is mandatory and will be provided; annual hearing tests are completed. Above normal temperatures during summer months. Some exposure to airborne particles within allowable limits.
Sensory Attention:
· Frequent need to give concentrated attention, with one or two senses (talk, listen, read) used in co-ordination to ensure the product is prepared according to schedule.
· Ability to apply common sense to problems involving mathematical skills (such as adding, subtracting, multiplication, and dividing), computer techniques, and written or oral instructions.
· Ability to carry out simple step-by-step instructions.
Mental Stress:
- Work and environment are not repetitious/unchanging.
- There is noticeable pressure from deadlines, production quotas, accuracy or similar demands.
- Bullying or harassment in any form will not be tolerated. Speak with a supervisor if the work or the environment is causing mental stress.
