With the amalgamation of the Women’s and Children’s program to Credit Valley hospital later this year there is an opportunity to increase resources to manage women’s health and paediatric patients presenting to the Mississauga Hospital Emergency Department. The Women’s and Children’s Resource Nurse will provide 24/7 focus and expertise in all areas of the Emergency Department. This role will focus on providing care to emergent paediatric patients as well as patients with Emergent Women’s Health issues (laboring, miscarrying). The role will also lend expertise to paediatric patients throughout the [KS1] department including newborn care.
As part of out commitment to providing holistic, patient- centred care, this opportunity is ideal for nurses who have an interest in seeking more knowledge in the care of women’s and paediatrics patients in the Emergency Department. We value clinical expertise, adaptability and a collaborative spirit to support our diverse patient population in times of urgent need. Patient experience with patient centred and informed care [KS2] will be a key aspect of this role.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver high-quality, evidence-based care to paediatric and women’s health patients in an emergency setting
- Provide comprehensive assessments, initiate interventions, and support families during critical moments.
- Be a resource for all staff caring for paediatric patients in department
- Collaborate effectively with interprofessional team to ensure optimal patient outcomes and when necessary timely transport to receiving facilities
- Accompany patients on transport as needed
- Support confidence building with skill development and application of critical thinking
- Support education through the delivery of targeted in-services, demonstrations, and sharing of updates/key messages as needed
- Role model patient safety best practices with each clinical interaction in alignment with CNO standards and THP policies and procedures
Key Qualifications:
- Current RN registration with the CNO
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing is required
- Must be minimum of Acute trained with sufficient clinical experience supporting patient care in all care areas
- Participate in additional training in pediatrics as well as labor/post-partum care that will be offered through the organization.
- Current BLS, ACLS and PALS certification required; ENC (C) certification is an asset.
- NRP and/or STABLE course, or willingness to complete within 6 months.
- Strong Computer skills, i.e. Microsoft 356, ASAP Epic, THP HUB resources Etc.
- Excellent communication skills
- Understanding of education principles and ability to apply these principles to promote learning
- Ability to foster a positive work culture
- Strong critical thinking, decision making, problem solving and conflict resolution skills
- Commitment to evidence-based practice and quality improvement
- Creative and agile, strong ability to pivot as needs change in a dynamic environment
- Have an excellent attendance record
