Ministry of SaskBuilds & Procurement, CVA/Disposal Program requires a permanent full-time detail-oriented team player to provide assistance in the disposal of surplus government assets.

Duties include providing financial management assistance in the preparation of sales journals, cash receipts accounting and reallocation of net proceeds to the source organization, as well as assisting in the data management of transferring information including digital photos of surplus assets from emails, spreadsheets and cameras to or from databases, spreadsheets and web site; and assisting in the evaluation of public bids and declaration of successful bidders. This position will also assist in creating reports on sales and donation of government assets in excel spreadsheets or other formats.

Sales preparation duties include: relocating vehicles around the sales lot; assisting in moving and displaying equipment and office furniture; providing assistance to dispose of unsold or unclaimed items.

You will be responsible to provide information and assistance to the public, receive and record bid information and obtain clarification of bid information as required. You will also be responsible for contacting successful bidders, receiving payment for items, releasing items purchased and issuing receipts and permits. You will accurately apply standard safety precautions and practices according to established protocols, guidelines and legislation.

You will also assist in the evaluation of vehicles, equipment and furniture that will be for sale to the public. A basic mechanical knowledge of vehicles and equipment would be required to evaluate and verify condition descriptions of items for sale.

You will be responsible for providing backup assistance to the Sales Consultant and the Sales Lot Attendant as required.

Competencies for this position include:

  • Knowledge and skills required for this position are typically gained through successful completion or currently enrolled in business/accounting/administration classes or experience;
  • Basic knowledge of computer applications & technology such as: Word, Outlook (email), advanced Excel, pictures, electronic file storage and uploading information to websites;
  • Basic mechanical knowledge of vehicles and equipment. Typically, this knowledge or experience is acquired through automotive or equipment maintenance;
  • Ability to accurately handle financial transactions such as incoming payments, apply taxes and commissions, account for funds dispersal, and manage received bids;
  • Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing, in order to provide clear and accurate information to the public and other government officials while explaining policies, processes and program information through excellent interpersonal skills as the duties include answering phones, directing calls or responding to inquiries;
  • Ability to identify problems, explore options and implement solutions in a timely manner;
  • Ability to work independently to plan, organize and manage daily workload to meet multiple and changing priorities within established time frames and co-operatively with others in a positive team environment to establish, build and maintain positive working relationships with customers;
  • Applicants will be expected to work inside and outside in all weather conditions, crouch, stoop and maintain other awkward positions while moving furniture or vehicles and be able to lift up to 50 pounds (23 kilograms); and
  • Must hold a valid driver’s license and be able to drive vehicles with either standard or automatic transmissions. Experience operating forklifts & large trucks up to approximately 3 tons would be an asset.
