Looking for a new and exciting job opportunity? We are looking for a Engineerign Technologist - Power to join our Engineering Department. As part of the Engineering Department, you will be responsible for providing engineering support and design expertise in relation to traction power and substation work associated with the TTC's traction power distribution systems, power generation facilities and associated equipment.

What You Will Do

Reporting to the Chief Engineer - Electrical, you will provide engineering support and design expertise in relation to traction power distribution engineering work associated with the TTC's power distribution systems, facilities and associated equipment such as traction power supply distribution systems, equipment protection systems, lighting systems, emergency systems, fire protection, and automated building control systems.

This also involves the following:

  • Electrical Design & Drafting: Prepare and review electrical designs, specifications, and CADD drawings using MicroStation for power distribution systems across TTC infrastructure.
  • Design Development: Create conceptual, preliminary, and final design drawings in accordance with TTC standards and project requirements.
  • Technical Analysis: Perform design calculations including short circuit, load flow, and fault analysis using specialized engineering software.
  • Code Compliance: Ensure all designs and documentation comply with applicable codes and standards such as OESC, OBC, NFPA, CSA, and the TTC Design Manual.
  • Contract Documentation: Draft and revise electrical contract specifications for tendering and construction phases.
  • Field Support: Conduct field reviews, inspections, and commissioning activities during construction and warranty periods to ensure quality and adherence to design.
  • Operational Troubleshooting: Provide technical support for operational issues, including system troubleshooting and field surveys as required.
  • Quality Assurance: Review and verify work completed by Design Draftspersons for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with standards.
  • Standards Maintenance: Assist in the ongoing maintenance and updates of TTC Design Standards and related documentation.

What Qualifications Do You Bring

  • Completion of a University Degree or Diploma in Electrical Engineering Technology, and or equivalent combinations of education, training, and experience will be considered.
  • 4+ years of relevant experience in electrical design, ideally in traction power and substations.
  • A Certified Engineering Technologist (C.E.T.) with O.A.C.E.T.T would be an asset.
  • Eligibility for licensing as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in the Province of Ontario would be an asset
  • In-depth knowledge of electrical systems for transit infrastructure (e.g., subway yards, carhouses).
  • Familiarity with transformers, switchgear (AC/DC), rectifiers, fault protection, control systems, lighting, fire alarm systems. and emergency power.
  • Proficient in MicroStation CADD, electrical load analysis tools, and related software.
  • Regulatory Knowledge - Solid understanding of: Ontario Electrical Safety Code, Ontario Building Code, Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA)ESA, NFPA, ULC, CSA, and other applicable standards.
  • Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving, and sound judgment.
  • Excellent communication and technical writing skills.
  • A Valid Class G Ontario driver’s license is considered as an (asset).
  • Willingness to travel to sites not accessible by public transit (personal vehicle may be required).
  • Must obtain and maintain Subway/SRT Rule Book certification for track-level access.
