About the job
Working as part of a dedicated team, you'll provide senior-level support to improve risk management, ensure policy and financial compliance, and help solve issues with tools and processes, all as part of a collaborative team. Each day may look a little different, but you can expect to:
• lead the creation and upkeep of risk management policies and processes
• review and analyze government proposals and decisions from a financial perspective
• conduct detailed financial analysis and assess risks tied to government programs and budgets
• offer expert advice and insights on risk management and business planning
• build and carry out communication and engagement plans to gather input and support for financial and risk management initiatives
What you bring to the team
Accounting and business planning knowledge
You have knowledge of:
• accounting and financial management principles, practices, and requirements
• revenue/expenditure management principles, internal control/accountability framework mechanisms, reconciliation processes, variance analysis, modern controllership and control/reporting standards and methodologies
You have the ability to gain knowledge of:
• governing legislation and ministry/OPS business activities
• Government business planning, financial planning, management, control, and administration reporting policies/directives
Risk management knowledge
You have knowledge of:
• risk management, performance management and management reporting theories, principles, and best practices
• risk assessment and management to provide leadership to the establishment, implementation, delivery, and sustainability of a risk management mandate
Interpersonal and communication skills
You can:
• develop and deliver presentations and briefings to stakeholders and management
• initiate and manage strong working relationships with colleagues throughout the division, ministry, and organization
• translate complex financial and risk management concepts and content into clear options and recommendations
Analytical and technical skills
You can:
• conduct complex financial analysis and risk assessments of government initiatives and budget proposals
• evaluate policy options and analyze the implications of directives or policies on financial management frameworks and operational processes, and provide well-informed recommendations to senior leadership
You have demonstrated experience with:
• standard office software (like Microsoft Office), financial reporting tools, and large-scale accounting systems (such as Oracle Financials) to check, understand, and analyze detailed financial information and create clear, accurate financial reports
