The Conflicts and Compliance Coordinator works with our legal professionals to ensure that we are protecting our clients’ interests and are compliant with legal industry standards. We’re looking to hire someone with high attention to detail who is a great team player and willing to learn. You might not have any familiarity with the responsibilities listed below – that’s ok! Duties & Responsibilities:

  • When our lawyers receive new business from a current or prospective client, the Coordinator’s role is to ensure that the appropriate conflict searches are conducted so that the new business doesn’t conflict with any current firm mandates.
  • Executes conflict searches and analyzes data before sending the report for the lawyer’s review.
  • Reviews requests for new client/business intake for accuracy of information and ensures the new business is opened in accordance with the firm’s procedures.
  • In the event that a conflict is determined, the Coordinator will put the appropriate measures in place to ensure the utmost confidentiality is secured, with relation to the conflicted parties.
  • Creates, updates and dismantles ethical walls. An ‘ethical wall’ is essentially an electronic information barrier, which prevents firm members with conflicts of interest from having access to each other’s documents and information.
  • References, maintains and distributes various reports to keep track of: conflicts of interest, nefarious business entities, client activity and changes, etc.
  • Educates firm members about procedures regarding conflicts and compliance and assists users with system errors and issues.
  • Contributes to the testing and maintenance of relevant systems and applications.
  • Maintains the firm’s intranet pages with respect to policies and guidelines for conflicts and engaging in new business.
  • As a law firm, our firm members are privy to sensitive client information. As such, prior to executing a personal financial trade (e.g. purchasing or selling stock in a public company), firm members must get clearance from the Coordinator. The Coordinator uses various applications and reports to approve such requests.
  • Assists in preparing various reports for new or departing legal professionals
  • Provides occasional after-hours/weekend overtime and on-call coverage on an as-needed, rotating basis.

Knowledge & Experience:

  • Experience working with accounting/billing applications an asset
  • Knowledge of MS Word and MS Excel
