THE OPPORTUNITY – Mental Health Counselor [ 12 months Term]

WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Establish and maintain professional relationships with consumers, Vecova employees, and external persons/agencies.
  • Provide counseling services to a caseload of clients.
  • Participate in initial planning and intake for new consumers to Vecova as requested.
  • Maintain appropriate documentation and records as required for the position.
  • Communicate effectively; ensuring communication is timely, accurate, and respectful of consumers, families, employees, and community representatives.
  • Establish therapeutic goals with consumers and review these on a regular basis.
  • Keep abreast of best and promising practices in professional support for persons with disabilities
  • Attend Individual Service Plan meetings for clients, as required.

WHAT YOU BRING

We want to engage team members with diverse skills, experiences, and interests. These are some of the competencies and credentials we are looking for:

  • Master of Social Work (with approval to perform psychosocial interventions from Alberta College of Social Workers), Master of Arts in Psychology, Master of Counselling, or equivalent
  • Registered in good standing with a regulatory body such as College of Alberta Psychologists, Alberta College of Social Workers, Canadian Certified Counsellor
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant clinical experience in the areas of individual psychotherapy, consultation, and behavior management.
  • Proven problem-solving skills; evaluates and assimilates pertinent information to make good decisions.
  • Working knowledge of the current predominant diagnostic classification systems and approaches to treatment.
  • Experience working with individuals with complex needs, ideally developmental or other disabilities.
  • Demonstrate a high standard of professionalism aligned with Vecova values
  • Maintain a positive working relationship with all Vecova team members
  • Maintain confidentiality at all times.
  • Demonstrate a high level of administrative and IT capacity.
