Reporting to the Executive Director, the Environmental Services Manager ensures a safe, clean, and comfortable environment that supports the health and well-being of residents and staff in long-term care.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES - GENERAL:

  • Plans, organizes, directs and supervises the activities of any combination of Housekeeping, Laundry and Maintenance teams which includes monitoring workflow, evaluates performance and production, and makes changes as necessary to improve quality, coordinates activities with other teams.
  • Selects, supervise, motivates department team members in addition to monitors and evaluates performance of direct reports
  • Maintains established department plans, policies and procedures regarding such things as quality assurance, infection control, fire, occupational health and safety and ensures compliance by employees.
  • Schedules and supervises housekeeping and laundry functions and activities; establishes routines and workflow patterns in cooperation with other teams
  • Liaises and consults with government officials/consultants and professionals in relation to resident care needs and department activities. Develops action plan(s) and provides written responses to any government inspections, Accreditation survey reports, Extendicare Regional Consultant's report, etc.
  • Participates in budget preparation and is accountable for maintaining departmental budgets.
  • Performs all duties in accordance with the written policies and procedures of Extendicare, the facility and the related manual(s).
  • Participates in the evaluation of care and/or service provided by the Support Services Department by developing implementing and evaluating activities under the Quality Assurance Program, and prepares statistical analyses as required.
  • Follows manufacturers’ instructions in the operation and use of all equipment and chemicals.
  • Alert to potential health and safety hazards and takes appropriate action. Reports unsafe and hazardous working conditions and any equipment malfunctions to the Maintenance Department or Administration.
  • Knowledgeable of facility procedures for fire and environmental safety.
  • Performs duties in accordance with prescribed sanitation and infection control procedures.
  • Respects residents’ rights to dignity and privacy and performs duties in a courteous and respectful manner.
  • Works closely and cooperates with other staff and residents. Maintains good working relationships with other departments.
  • Performs other duties as required

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES – MAINTENANCE

  • Works with contractors on projects to be undertaken within the home which includes collecting quotes and seeking support from engineering team for work.
  • Prioritize repairs and maintenance to be undertaken within the home based on safety and quality of life and within budgetary constraints.
  • Ensure preventative maintenance program and scheduled tasks are completed within program guidelines.
