Chief Engineer // Head of Maintenance
Hands-On Leadership Opportunity at Established Downtown Vancouver Hotel.
SUMMARY:
We are seeking a skilled and motivated Chief Engineer // Head of Maintenance to lead the Maintenance Department at our established hotel currently undergoing a significant renewal and reinvestment phase. This is a key leadership role suited to someone with extensive experience in hotel and building operations—someone who can both lead a team and work hands-on to set the standard.

Team Leadership
· Provide strong, supportive leadership to the maintenance team and foster a culture of quality, safety, and performance.
· Lead by example: actively participate in maintenance tasks, repairs, and daily operations.
· Mentor and coach team members with ongoing training, performance reviews, and check-ins.
· Assist with recruiting, scheduling, and managing team performance.
Building Maintenance & Property Renewal
· Conduct regular property inspections to ensure safety, functionality, and efficiency of all building systems, including HVAC, boilers, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing.
· Oversee maintenance and repairs for all guest rooms, public areas, heart-of-house spaces, and exterior grounds.
· Lead the implementation of a comprehensive preventative maintenance program.
· Support ongoing infrastructure reinvestment projects and capital upgrades throughout the renewal process, including brand required upgrades and updates.
· Ensure adherence to all company, local, and provincial health and safety standards.
· Manage inventory, vendor relationships, payroll, and departmental budgeting.
· Train and supervise emergency procedures related to fire, earthquake, and power failure.
QUALIFICATIONS:
· Minimum 5 years in hotel maintenance or engineering leadership.
· Strong hands-on knowledge of building systems and trades (HVAC, electrical, plumbing, boilers, carpentry, etc.).
· Trade certification and/or post-secondary vocational training required.
· First Aid and WHMIS certified.
· Strong organizational, problem-solving, and team management skills.
· Proficient in Microsoft Office and maintenance scheduling systems.
· Experience working on older properties or during renovations is a strong asset.
· Must be legally eligible to work in Canada.
· Flexible availability, including for on-call emergencies.
Salary: Negotiable based on experience.
