Job Description:
POSITION SUMMARY: Under the general supervision of the Sport & Community Development Supervisor, is responsible for the overall strategic development and implementation of a service that matches economically disadvantaged children and youth with participating sport, recreation, and cultural program providers. Must work with staff, volunteers and other organizations to assist with the responsibilities of this position.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Participates as a member of the Division’s service delivery team to carry out the goals and objectives of the Division.
- Sets goals and objectives, creates policies and procedures, and develops strategies for the effective delivery of the P.R.O. Kids Services.
- Develops, maintains and supports a strong PRO Kids Board of Directors and sub-committees; serves as an ex-officio member of each committee; seeks and builds board involvement in policy decisions, short and long-term plans, fundraising, and increasing the overall visibility of the organization.
- Recruits, screens, supervises, and evaluates part-time support staff, volunteers, and placement students working with the Service; ensures service staff and volunteer requirements are maintained.
- Participates in the administration of the Service’s annual operating budget, including assisting in the development and implementation of fundraising targets and marketing strategies.
- Manages a confidential process of service delivery; interviews and screens applicants; negotiates placements with program providers; and provides information and refers children to the activities offered by the partner organizations.
- Establishes and maintains relationships with various social service agencies and community sport, recreation and cultural organizations and utilizes those relationships to strategically advance the PRO Kids mission.
- Manages participant and donor databases, ensuring confidentiality; compiles statistical data and reports.
- Ensures effective systems to track progress and regularly evaluate program components so as to measure successes that can be effectively communicated to Board members, funders and other constituents.
- Coordinates partner and donor recognition events; administers newsletters; delivers presentations to outside agencies and groups.
- Performs such other related duties as may be assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Experience:
- Degree or diploma in recreation, social services, human services or social sciences; and
- Three years supervisory experience in recreation; or
- Equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Must have experience in community development, recreation, fundraising, and marketing experience and experience in and commitment to working with staff and volunteers.
Skills/Abilities:
- Ability to communicate effectively and concisely, both orally and in writing
- Must have excellent organizational skills
- Must be at an intermediate skill level in word processing and spreadsheet software and be proficient in database management
- Must be competent with in the meaning of the Occupational Health and Safety Act
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- May be required to travel to various work locations and provide own transportation
- Must be willing to work irregular hours including evenings and weekends
- Must sign and abide by Employee Confidentiality Statement
- Must undergo a successful Criminal Record and Judicial Matters Check (CRJMC)
