About the role

🌍 Job Opening: Regulatory & Compliance (Food & Textile)

📍 Location: Vancouver | Full-time | Impact-Driven Biotech Startup

Are you a regulatory powerhouse who loves rolling up your sleeves and seeing things through from zero to launch?

At Lite-1 , we’re revolutionizing the way the world experiences colours. Our proprietary dyes are replacing toxic synthetic dyes in textiles, food, and cosmetics with nature-grown alternatives. As we expand into global markets, we’re looking for a Regulatory & Compliance expert who can own the entire lifecycle of regulatory approvals , from designing toxicity studies to FDA submissions to securing certifications across multiple industries (such as textile, food, cosmetics) and jurisdictions.

🔍 What You’ll Do:

Regulatory Strategy & Execution

  • Design, plan, and execute regulatory roadmaps across textile, food, cosmetic, and materials sectors — with a focus on FDA , EFSA , REACH , OEKO-TEX , GOTS , ZDHC , and other relevant bodies.

  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive regulatory database of global standards and applicable regulations.

  • Translate business and R&D goals into actionable regulatory strategies for new product launches and product category expansion.

  • Coordinate and manage GRAS , FCN , or equivalent submissions and approvals for food-related applications.

  • Prepare complete regulatory dossiers, MSDS, safety sheets, and claims documentation with precision and scientific integrity.

Toxicology & Safety Testing

  • Design, coordinate, and oversee toxicity, biodegradability, stability , and exposure studies (acute/chronic toxicity, skin irritation, genotoxicity, etc.) across relevant product types.

  • Select and manage partnerships with testing laboratories, CROs, and third-party certification bodies .

  • Interpret test data and generate documentation to support regulatory and customer requirements.

Cross-functional Integration

  • Collaborate closely with R&D, biomanufacturing, and formulation teams to ensure safety and regulatory requirements are met early in the development process.

  • Support IP and commercialization teams by contributing technical and regulatory insights to ensure compliance and de-risked market entry.

Stakeholder & Agency Engagement

  • Serve as primary point of contact with regulatory agencies , standard-setting organizations, and third-party certifiers, including site visits, audits, and regular reporting.

  • Maintain ongoing relationships and leverage existing networks to accelerate regulatory acceptance and streamline review timelines.

🧠 You Bring – Required Qualifications & Mindset

  • 5+ years of hands-on regulatory and product safety experience , ideally across both food and textile (or chemical/materials) sectors.

  • Proven track record of managing toxicity testing and leading FDA, EFSA, REACH, or equivalent regulatory submissions .

  • Deep knowledge of international regulatory frameworks , including the U.S., Canada, the EU, and emerging markets.

  • Strong understanding of chemistry, toxicology, or life sciences as they apply to product safety and compliance.

  • Experience managing or conducting studies related to biodegradability, safety assessments, contaminant thresholds, and regulatory claims validation .

  • Demonstrated ability to manage external testing labs, CROs, and third-party certifications independently and efficiently.

  • Outstanding communication skills — able to translate technical content into strategic regulatory recommendations and customer-ready documentation.

  • Hands-on, self-starting attitude — ready to operate in a fast-paced startup environment , where your work has immediate and visible impact.

  • Bonus: Experience with FDA colour petitions, GRAS notifications , OEKO-TEX Eco Passport , or ZDHC MRSL compliance .
