SUMMARY
The position is responsible for managing the financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and analysis functions. This role involves providing strategic financial insights and recommendations to support decision-making processes and ensure alignment with BCFSA’s mandate and strategic goals.
ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Analyses and communicates spending against budget. Identifies trends, risks, and opportunities to ensure alignment with financial goals and strategic objectives. Provides actionable insights and recommendations to optimize resource allocation and improve financial performance.
- Manages the process of annual budget development and quarterly forecasting. Ensures accurate and timely preparation and submission of budget and forecast.
- Identifies and implements improvements to financial planning and analysis processes, tools, and systems to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
- Develops and maintains complex financial models to support budgeting, forecasting, and long-term planning.
- Proactively collaborates with Project Leaders and Project Managers to develop and enhance project guidelines, establish best practice for project tracking and forecasting to enhance accuracy and efficiency.
- Undertakes in-depth research to gather, analyze, and interpret data from various sources. Provides recommendation for management decision-making and support organizational objectives.
- Prepares board deliverables, delivers high quality financial analysis and write-ups for management finalization.
- Serves as the administrator for the budgeting software system, responsible for managing user access, maintaining system configurations, and ensuring the software operates efficiently.
- Develops and delivers training programs for budget holders to ensure effective use of the budgeting software. Provides ongoing support and troubleshooting as needed.
- Develops budgeting procedures and user guides for the budgeting software and processes. Ensures that these resources are user-friendly, accessible, and facilitate efficient and accurate budget preparation and management.
- Collects feedback from users to continuously improve the budgeting software to meet business needs and organizational goals.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
- A minimum of seven years of experience in accounting and finance fields.
- A problem-solver and a critical thinker, able to translate business strategies into relevant business processes. Connects the dots through ambiguity.
- Proficient at prioritizing tasks without compromising quality or deadlines.
- Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Outstanding verbal and written communication skills, ability to simplify complex information to ensure understanding
- Excellent financial analytical and formal reporting writing skills.
- Attention to detail and the ability to consistently produce accurate, high-quality reports and analysis for management and executive audiences
- Expertise in preparing comprehensive financial statements and reports.
- Deep understanding of accounting standards, including International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and Canadian Public Sector Accounting Standards (PSAS).
EDUCATION
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration, Finance or Economics or related field
CERTIFICATION
- Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation required.
