Position Title: Personal Support Worker
Reports to: Service Coordinator
Location: Kamloops, BC
Overview
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Support Worker to join our team. In this role, you will provide essential assistance to an individual within their own home and community. Your primary focus will be on enhancing the quality of life for individuals with diverse abilities The ideal candidate will possess a strong commitment to caregiving, desire to make a positive impact in the lives of others and the ability to provide support with challenging behaviours.
Employment Type: Casual, 24-hour shifts; 3 days on, 3 days off.
Work Environment: The Support Worker will provide support in the individual's home and community.
24-hour Shifts: This position is considered a "Live-In" position under the BC Employment Standards Act. Support Workers are not expected to be awake throughout the entire shift and are provided a staff room/bed to sleep in. However, if the individual required assistance overnight, the support worker would be expected to provide essential support when needed.
Compensation: IMLKS offers competitive wages and benefits, covers meals during shifts and mileage is reimbursed upon submission. IMLKS also offers training and development opportunities for its employees.

Key Areas of Responsibility:
- De-escalating crisis situations
- Remaining calm in stressful situations
- Setting boundaries and following Behavioural Support Plans
- Assist the supported individual with daily living activities, including personal hygiene, grooming, and dressing.
- Provide medication administration as prescribed by healthcare professionals.
- Prepare nutritious meals tailored to individual dietary needs and preferences.
- Offer companionship and emotional support to the individual, fostering a positive environment.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization in the living space of the supported individual
- Providing a safe and nurturing environment
- Presenting the individual in a positive and respectable manner
- Promoting independence
- Supporting the individual with leisure activities and other community involvement
- Document care provided and report any changes in Person Served conditions to appropriate personnel.
- Collaborate with healthcare teams to ensure comprehensive care for Persons Served.

- Ability to perform caregiving tasks while maintaining a clean and safe environment
Job Requirements:
- Previous experience supporting individuals with diverse abilities in a home care settings is preferred.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with supported individuals and their families.
- Valid First Aid Certificate *Can be obtained during training period*
- Valid Driver's License and safe driving history
- Safe, reliable vehicle that be used for work.
- Clear Criminal Record check under the Vulnerable Sector (processed by the Criminal Record Review Program once an offer of employment is accepted )
- Medical clearance form completed by a physician
- TB test (to be completed within probationary period)
- Must be able to commit to the 24-hour shift rotation for a minimum of one year
- Must have a valid work permit, PR or Canadian Citizenship as we cannot accommodate scheduling to comply with study permit restrictions
- Compassionate nature and a genuine desire to help others.
- Certification or training in crisis management, violence prevention, caregiving or other related fields is an asset but is not mandatory.
