The Team
We have a 360-degree view of healthcare in Alberta. With data from hospitals, Alberta Health Services, university research, surgeons and patients, we can see the full picture.
How You’ll Spend Your Time
Team Leadership:
- Manage and mentor a team of data analysts; assign tasks, review work, and provide performance feedback.
- Foster a collaborative work environment within the team and promote knowledge sharing and professional development.
- Recruit and onboard new data analysts.
Data Analysis and Insights:
- Lead complex data analysis projects, identifying key trends and patterns within large datasets using advanced analytical techniques.
- Develop and implement data analysis frameworks to ensure consistency and efficiency.
- Translate data insights into actionable recommendations for business decision-making, communicating findings clearly to stakeholders at various levels.
Data Quality and Governance:
- Establish and enforce data quality standards, identify and resolve data inconsistencies, and detect analytic errors.
- Monitor data pipelines and data integrity, ensuring accurate data collection and processing.
- Develop and implement data governance policies to maintain data quality and compliance.
Project Management:
- Define project scope, timelines, and deliverables for data analysis projects.
- Prioritize tasks and manage project execution to meet deadlines.
- Track project progress and identify potential risks, proactively addressing issues.
Stakeholder Management:
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams across the organization to understand business needs and identify relevant data analysis requirements.
- Develop requirements and analysis plans using input from non-technical end-users.
- Present data insights and recommendations to key stakeholders in a clear and concise manner.
- Communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Education/Certification
- Bachelor's degree in a quantitative field (Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Health Sciences, Epidemiology).
- 5+ years of experience in data analysis, with significant experience in a leadership role.
Required Skills and Experience
Technical Skills:
- Ability to design and execute statistical analyses for projects, ad-hoc requests and research studies with minimal supervision.
- Three or more years experience with R, SAS, Stata, SPSS, or equivalent statistical analysis software.
- Expert proficiency with advanced analytical methods such as multivariable linear and logistical regression, survival analysis, simulation modelling, etc.
- Must have experience with large data sets (millions of records).
- Experience working with SQL, Python, and data visualization tools (Power BI, Tableau, or similar products) would be an asset.
Analytical Skills:
- Ability to extract meaningful insights from complex datasets.
- Critical thinking and problem-solving skills to identify root causes and develop solutions.
- Ability to independently design and oversee others in developing analysis plans while ensuring quality control of analytic outputs.
Leadership Skills:
- Proven ability to lead and mentor a team of data analysts.
- Ability to communicate and present results effectively and to convey complex data insights to non-technical audiences.
Desirable Skills and Experience
- Robust understanding of the public health care system in Canada, with special emphasis on Alberta.
- Experience working with large administrative datasets, especially health care data (hospital discharge abstract, ambulatory care, physician claims, pharmacy, lab, diagnostic imaging, etc.).
- Experience working with unstructured or semi-structured data.
- Grasp of simulation modelling techniques (discrete event, Monte Carlo, system dynamics etc.
