Salary: PT Support Payband 8 (Start- $24.99 and Max-$38.45)

About the Industry Outreach Coordinator Role:

The incumbent will support the business and industry development efforts and activities for the Office of Research & Innovation (ORI). Working with the business development team and ORI staff, the incumbent will be responsible for assisting in the planning, producing and hosting of industry workshops (both in-person and online), industry networking and technology/knowledge transfer (T/KT) events for industry, coordinating the production and promotion of promotional material, and custom corporate training for the department. The incumbent will also be responsible for conducting industry outreach, aiding in networking, keeping ORI’s customer relationship management system up to date, as well as assisting in scoping applied research projects. This may also include helping disseminate applied research case studies to Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SME’s). The Industry Outreach Coordinator (IOC) position reports to the Associate Dean, Grants and Research Development.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Assistance with applied research business development.

  • Helps promote awareness and supports develops/maintains relationships with key business/industry contacts.

  • Helps identify and scope strong potential projects for collaborative applied research and development initiatives.

  • Gathers information about relevant industries.

  • Gathers information about research strengths and technical facilities.

  • Aids in networking with industry representatives and other researchers at sector-specific conferences and with SME decision-makers concerning their applied research needs, helping to build the reputation of Humber Polytechnic.

  • Drafts presentation materials.

  • Generates leads by marketing collaborative opportunities via outreach (emails, newsletter, phone calls, meetings to past and current industry partners and the regional innovation system (i.e Ontario Centres of Excellence (OCE), MaRS, Autonomous Vehicle Innovation Network (AVIN), etc

  • Communicates with faculty, students and administrators concerning applied research capacity to find appropriate matches for partnered applied research projects.

  • Estimates the viability of potential applied research initiatives using the institution’s Strategic Plan, external funding criteria, potential for commercialization, and paying particular attention to project criteria as guides to shape and prioritize project activities.

  • Assesses industry needs, commercial prospects/concepts and applied research capacity to service projects.

  • Helps manage the sales pipeline with ORI’s customer relationship management tools.

  • Works with ORI staff to manage communications and marketing content related to applied research activities.

  • Helps qualify applied research projects with the guidance of the grant development team; so that outcomes adhere to industry and institutional needs.

  • Provides detailed information to research members on documentation and ORI processes.

2. Planning and Hosting Industry Training Workshops and Events.

  • Coordinates appropriate faculty schedules and aggregates appropriate training workshop materials (online and presentation content).

  • Coordinates project resources including on-site and online logistics in hosting/ producing workshops and events (scheduling, room bookings, arranging hospitality services, travel bookings for guests and accommodations as required).

  • Coordinates industry outreach for events and sending out feedback surveys following the events.

  • Facilitates/monitors activities to ensure success of event initiatives.

  • Facilitates the dissemination of information and updates online through ORI’s website and social media outlets regarding workshops and events.

  • Reports on the progress of event status and development with the Associate Dean, Grants and Research Development.

3. Comprehensive/efficient reporting, record-keeping and record-sharing.

  • Responsible for keeping customer relationship management tools up-to-date including business development prospects and records of all communications.
  • Maintains organized records of activities and outcomes for internal and external reporting needs.

Education

  • 4-year degree in marketing, communications, or public relations

Experience/Skills

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in communications or public relations

  • Experience working in the field of marketing and promotion involving multi-sectoral business applications (Media, Internet of Things, Global data delivery, Health etc)

  • Experience in supporting industry outreach and business development.
