Cashier, Casual on-call
The District of Sparwood has an excellent employment opportunity for an enthusiastic, highly motivated individual to join the Leisure Services team in the role of casual, on-call Cashier. Reporting to the Director of Community Services, the casual, on-call Cashier undertakes general office, clerical, and cashiering duties in support of recreation programming and services at the Sparwood Leisure Centre.
The core job duties include:

Providing exemplary customer service and being knowledgeable in facility policies, procedures, programs, and events

Completing program registrations and facility bookings for diverse clientele

Processing cash and electronic payments for facility use and admissions, including end-of-day deposits and cash reports

Preparing and assisting with the development of advertising and promotional materials
The ideal candidate will have:

Minimum Grade 12 diploma ( GED or equivalent)
-
Additional education, courses or training in business, office administration, recreation, communications or a related field
-
Strong written and oral communication skills
-
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Applications such as word, excel, outlook etc.

Working knowledge of online webpage and design programs, such as Canva
-
Class 5 Drivers License
-
Exceptional customer service skills to deal with the public in person and by phone in a courteous and effective manner
-
Ability to work well both independently and as part of a collaborative team
Hours of work: This is a casual position with no guaranteed hours. The scheduled hours may vary greatly depending on operational needs, between 0-40 hours per week. Shifts are normally 8 hours in length and include weekdays, evenings and weekends. This is a great position for those looking for a flexible schedule, to supplement other income, and/or gain valuable experience in community recreation and programing!
Salary: This position is unionized under CUPE local 2698. The 2025 hourly wage rate is $30.75/hour as per the current Collective Agreement.

Job Duties

Performs receptionist duties including answering and responding to telephone and/or in person inquiries

Processes facility bookings and/or cancellations

Registers participants into programs

Receives admissions/user payments

Processes daily deposits, cash reports and reconciliations

Maintains and updates website, social media and electronic sign
-
Prepares correspondence, maintains spread sheets and databases etc.

Maintains accurate records and prepares reports

Develops, edits, proofreads and maintains promotional materials

Prepares and assists with the set-up of programs, and facilities using recreation software

Fills in for regular office staff in the event of illness, training or holidays

Other duties as assigned
Education and Qualifications

Grade 12 supplemented by relevant business/commercial/accounting courses and experience

Certificates in MS Word, Excel, Office

Communications Certificate

Working knowledge of recreation software
