LOCATION: Kerry’s Place East Region – Oshawa

AGE GROUP SUPPORTED: Children or Youth under 18 years old/Supported persons over age 18

POSITION STATUS: Temporary Full-Time (10 weeks contract ending August 2025; two weeks written notice prior to contract end)

HOURS OF WORK: 35 hours per week (Days)

HOURLY PAY RATE: $17.20 per hour

UNION AFFILIATION: Non-Union

About the Role:

Reporting to Manager of Services and Supports, the Autism Support Facilitator is responsible for for providing direct support to individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder, their families and communities, ensuring that the day-to-day support provided to persons diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder meet the expectations of those supported persons to enhance their quality of life. Responsibilities may include:

  • The support provided must also align with the values of Kerry’s Place Autism Services and meet the goals and expectations of the organization
  • The Autism Support Facilitator, with his/her team, provide services aimed at maximizing health and safety and personal fulfillment of people diagnosed with ASD

Education Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary education in Human / Social Services

Knowledge and Experience Requirements:

  • 1 year experience working with individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder/developmental disabilities in a community based setting as well as;
  • Experience working closely with families and with community agencies
  • Experience working with both children and adults with developmental disabilities
  • Strong knowledge of and experience supporting individuals with ASD in community settings.
  • Good understanding of normal human growth and development as well as societal support to individuals with disabilities
  • Good knowledge of respective communities and formal and informal resources
  • Strong understanding of the principles of supporting individuals within the family unit and within their community is required
  • Basic understanding of Child and Family Services Act and The Services and Supports to
  • Promote the Social Inclusion of Persons with Developmental Disabilities Act and responsibilities through these
  • Knowledge and practical experience with support approaches often found to be helpful in support to children and adults with ASD (ie. social stories /sensory needs/communication aids / applied behaviour analysis/environmental modifications)
  • Understanding of basic family dynamics including grief processes, sibling issues, and importance of family and support for long term family capacity
  • Solid understanding of ABA principles, associated teaching methods, and experience in utilizing these principles in supporting individuals with ASD across the autism spectrum
  • Experience with and comfort in working with families from diverse backgrounds

  • Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment;
  • Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment*; and,
  • Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations

Welcome to Kerry’s Place Autism Services. We are Canada’s largest service provider to families with children, adolescents, and adults, with Autism Spectrum Disorder.

Since 1974 Kerry’s Place has been creating, and providing evidence-based supports and services across the province of Ontario that enhance the quality of life of those with ASD.

With staff numbering more than 1200, Kerry’s Place is one of the only organizations in the country that serves the entire life span of those with ASD.

Through the Ontario Autism Program, we provide children and youth - and their families - a menu of timely, evidence-based services needed to achieve their goals at home, at school, and within their communities. This initiative serves individuals with ASD up to age 18, delivering skill-building groups, individual consultation, and family support.

We provide numerous Community Services and Supports, including our day and overnight respite options to provide a well-deserved break for families with loved ones with Autism, along with our many camps and leisure groups.

Our Adult Skill-Building and Peer Support Groups broaden the social circle for every individual we support. Our Employment Programs lend assistance to young adults with Autism to help develop skills that lead to meaningful employment opportunities.

We provide adults with ASD Residential and Semi-Independent Living Supports at 90 distinct properties across Ontario. Our group living approach provides a safe, 24 hour, home environment where residents are encouraged to pursue their own personal goals including outings into the community, employment, and an array of interests. Many of our residence grow with Kerry’s Place, spending upwards of 30 years with us. And through a lifetime of shared pursuits and generational experiences, we too, grow with them.
