Position Overview
The Regional Lead – Eastern Canada plays a vital role in delivering the Canadian Wildlife Federation’s (CWF) nature-based education programs across Quebec and New Brunswick. Candidates must reside within the Ottawa–Quebec City corridor, and fluency in both English and French is required.
In this highly mobile, community-focused role, you will be responsible for coordinating, promoting, and delivering hands-on education programs in schools and community settings through direct delivery partners and volunteers. These programs are designed to connect people—especially youth—with nature, and inspire environmental stewardship through experiential learning. Tasks may include organizing school visits, leading outdoor workshops, supporting youth leadership programs, and hosting public engagement events.
You’ll also take the lead in developing relationships with local schools, libraries, and service organizations; supporting volunteers who deliver or assist with programs; and collaborating with internal teams to adapt materials and messaging for regional audiences.
This role is ideal for a bilingual candidate with a strong background in education or outreach, excellent presentation skills, and a passion for engaging communities in conservation.
Duties and Responsibilities
Program Planning, Coordination, & Delivery:
- Plans and delivers CWF nature-based education programs within a designated region.
- Secures program locations, equipment, and materials to ensure the smooth execution of program activities.
- Conducts risk assessments for outdoor activities and ensures compliance with safety policies and procedures.
- Provides on-site support and guidance to program participants and volunteers throughout activities.
- Monitors program outcomes and prepares evaluation reports to guide program improvement and future initiatives.
- Collaborates with the Marketing and Communications department to support promotional initiatives and enhance program visibility.
Volunteer & Participant Support & Engagement:
- Recruits, trains, and manages regional program volunteers throughout program delivery.
- Provides mentorship and guidance to youth and community participants.
- Facilitates team-building activities that inspire conservation action and foster community involvement.
Fund Development & Support:
- Works with the Fund Development and Program Management teams to identify and pursue funding opportunities.
- Assists with writing grant proposals and preparing funding reports.
- Builds and maintains relationships with local donors, sponsors, and partners to support fundraising efforts.
- Supports the planning and execution of regional fundraising campaigns and events.
Community Engagement & Partner Development:
- Establishes and maintains strong partnerships with schools, community organizations, businesses, and Indigenous communities in alignment with CWF’s regional engagement strategies.
- Represents CWF at community events, conferences, public forums, and outreach activities.
- Promotes CWF programs to diverse audiences through tailored regional outreach strategies to advance the CCNBE’s goals.
- Assists with other Education activities as required.
Education, Experience, and Abilities
- Fluent Bilingualism in English/French is required.
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience in Education, Environmental Studies, Community Development, or a related field.
- A minimum of 2 years of related experience.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and public speaking skills.
- Strong ability to build and maintain partnerships.
- Experience in community outreach, education, or nonprofit program delivery.
- Ability and willingness to travel frequently within the region.
- Ideally, have an existing network within the education field within the community (e.g., libraries, schools, school boards, service groups, universities, etc).
- Experience supervising, training, or supporting volunteers.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to rent a car.
- Police Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search clear of convictions, or willingness to obtain.
- Standard First Aid or higher, or willingness to obtain.
- Proficiency with digital tools and platforms is an asset (e.g., MS Office Suite, presentation software, CRM systems).
Work Conditions
- Full-time indeterminate position.
- Typically working Monday through Friday for 37.5 hours per week. Must be available on-call for emergency situations, such as when a group of youth are out in the field.
- Location: Anywhere within the region of Ottawa, ON to Quebec City, QC. For candidates in Ottawa, work is required out of CWF’s Head Office with hybrid flexibility. All other candidates are remote from home.
- Frequent sitting at a computer and use of peripherals.
- Travel within the Ottawa, ON to Edmunston, NB region is required.
- Periods of physical effort are required for carrying program supplies and equipment up to 50lbs, standing and moving for presentations and programming, leading light outdoor activities and service projects (walking, hiking, trash pickups, gardening, etc), and participating in various moderately challenging outdoor activities (kayaking, climbing, backpacking, and other wilderness-based activities.
- May experience mental stress due to travel, interruptions and questions from various individuals, managing conflicting demands and work activities, unpredictable situations, and emotionally charged situations.
