About the role

Geriatric Psychiatrist 200-1181

Reference Number

200-1181

The Division of Geriatric Psychiatry is seeking a Geriatric Psychiatrist in either a full time or part time capacity to join 3 other Geriatric Psychiatrists in providing consultation to patients and their families/caregivers, primary care physicians, and fellow health care professionals in Acute Inpatient, Outpatient, and Residential Care settings in Nanaimo.

The successful candidate will provide leadership and clinical expertise to the GEM team - a multidisciplinary geriatric consultation-liaison program in acute care. Your complex patients will also have access to acute and rehabilitation programs in Victoria, Duncan, and Ladysmith as part of an innovative Island-wide Tertiary Geriatric Psychiatry program ensuring the highest quality of care.

There is also the opportunity to expand your practice interests by providing consultation to remote areas on Vancouver Island through the NITAOP program. It is very rewarding to provide much-needed service for special populations including First Nations. Geriatric psychiatry services are provided as part of Seniors Mental Health, which provides exceptional quality services through integration of resources and a strong focus on educational support of clinicians, physicians and other health care providers. You will participate in clinical service, teaching, and ongoing program development as part of the Island-wide Dementia Strategy, including the newly-opened MINT clinic, conjointly with Geriatric Medicine.

Participation in the NRGH General Psychiatry call rotation is a requirement of this position. This would be approximately a 1 in 11 commitment.

Involvement in the Island Medical Program undergraduate and postgraduate teaching program is encouraged. A University of B.C. affiliated appointment and membership in the Division of Geriatric Psychiatry is available.
