Human Resources Administrative Assistant
Location: Métis Crossing, Smoky Lake, AB
Closing Date: Open Until Suitable Candidate Found
Position Status: Full-Time, Permanent
The Organization
Métis Crossing is Alberta’s first major Métis destination, where we share and celebrate Métis culture with all people! With their unique designs that combine both traditional and contemporary Métis craftsmanship, The Lodge and the Gathering Centre at Métis Crossing offer a blend of comfort, culture, and Métis history. Adjacent to the Cultural Gathering Centre, our 40-room boutique Lodge provides scenic views overlooking the majestic North Saskatchewan River, the very route used by our Métis ancestors as they gathered here to trade. The Cultural Gathering Centre is the base for all our cultural and educational programs. The Lodge features a Bistro for coffee and express breakfast, as well as a Lounge for cocktails and light snacks. Together, they create an ideal setting for corporate and government retreats as well as family gatherings.
Position Summary
The Human Resources Administrative Assistant is responsible for providing administrative support in the delivery of Human Resources functions at Métis Crossing. This role includes assisting in the recruiting process, supporting the development of Human Resources policies and procedures, and ensuring the accuracy and consistency of all HR-related documentation.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide administrative support to the HR Consultant and the HR Manager.
- Assist with recruitment processes, including job postings, screening, reference checks, and onboarding.
- Support orientations and training sessions as required.
- Take the lead on human resources-related grant applications and administration.
- Assist in the development of human resources policies, compensation, and benefits programs.
- Support the employee performance review process.
- Draft memoranda, correspondence, reports, proposals, job descriptions, and other employment-related documentation.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date personnel records.
- Organize and maintain all HR-related files.
- Present a positive and professional image of the organization when interacting with employees, clients, visitors, and other external stakeholders.
- Assist in the development and maintenance of health, safety, and wellness policies, procedures, and training programs, including disability management.
- Create, implement, and ensure the maintenance of the organizational Records Management Structure.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

- Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs and other relevant software.

- Experience working with diverse teams of varying cultural backgrounds and ages.
- Strong organizational skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Psychology, or a Diploma in Human Resources.
- 1 – 3 years of experience working in a Human Resources Department or Administrative Assistant role.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Must be fluent in English (speaking, reading, writing, and comprehension).
- Knowledge of Alberta history, cultural diversity, and Métis culture is an asset.
- Ability to speak a second language is an asset.
Other Requirements
- Ability to work at Métis Crossing in Smoky Lake.
- Clear Criminal Record Check.
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s License and reliable transportation.
- Flexible schedule, including availability for days, evenings, and weekends as needed.
- Occasional travel within Alberta.
