About the role
As our first Junior Developer – Software / Data Systems
, you’ll help build the foundation of Aera’s Crop Management System
—a data platform that will drive smarter, more personalized crop growth and unlock future machine learning features.
This role is responsible for structuring and managing our internal crop database, integrating environmental sensor data, and supporting product development with scalable backend systems—and is an opportunity to shape the direction of a data-driven, globally reimagined food system.
You’ll:
- Research, design, and implement a structured database for crop profiles, growth parameters, and historical yield data
- Work with Aera’s Software Lead to develop tools and systems to ingest and organize environmental, sensor, and photo/video data from Victory
- Help design architecture for user inputs and integration with unit-level data
- Collaborate with founders and Aera’s UI/UX Designer to build a customer-facing crop management platform
- Assist in developing internal tools to visualize, query, and validate crop performance
- Define data models that support future machine learning use cases

- Are a recent graduate (within the past 2 years) in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Science, or a related field
- Are comfortable working with relational or NoSQL databases (PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Firebase, etc.)
- Have experience with Python or JavaScript/TypeScript and have used Node.js or backend frameworks
- Have familiarity with data visualization, ML workflows, or API development
- Bring a growth mindset with curiosity and resilience to break through innovation challenges

- Enjoy working independently but thrive in collaborative teams
- Bonus: experience with agricultural, horticultural, or biological data systems
