As our project portfolio grows, we are seeking a skilled and driven Electrical Estimator to join our high-performance team.
Position Overview
As an Electrical Estimator, you will be responsible for preparing accurate, competitive, and profitable estimates for a variety of electrical construction projects. You will collaborate closely with Project Managers, Foremen, and senior leadership to support our pre-construction efforts and ensure our bids reflect the standards of excellence TDR Electric is known for. This is a key role with direct impact on our ability to secure new work and drive operational success.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop detailed and accurate cost estimates, including material take-offs, labor, equipment, and subcontractor services.
- Interpret construction drawings, specifications, and tender documents to determine scope of work and pricing strategies.
- Prepare Bills of Materials (BOM) and coordinate with suppliers for competitive pricing.
- Solicit and evaluate quotes from subcontractors and vendors.
- Use estimating software such as Accubid Pro, LiveCount, and Bluebeam to produce professional bids.
- Attend site walks, pre-bid meetings, and tender reviews as needed.
- Lead bid closings, ensuring estimates are reviewed and submitted on time.
- Support the handover of awarded projects to Project Managers and Foremen, ensuring scope, budget, and logistics are clearly communicated.
- Track and maintain historical cost data, supplier/subcontractor pricing, and post-project reviews to continuously refine estimating accuracy.
- Prepare pricing for change orders and support cost-control efforts during project execution.
- Stay current with market conditions, industry trends, and changes to the Canadian Electrical Code and BC Building Code.
- Build strong relationships with clients, developers, general contractors, and industry partners to support business development efforts.
Qualifications
- 2–5 years of experience in electrical estimating or a related field within the construction industry.
- In-depth knowledge of electrical systems and a strong ability to interpret construction drawings and technical documents.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (especially Excel); Accubid, LiveCount, and Bluebeam experience preferred.
- Excellent analytical, mathematical, and organizational skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
- Able to manage multiple deadlines and work both independently and collaboratively.
- Diploma or degree in Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline is an asset.
- Red Seal Electrician background is considered an asset.
