Strategic Initiatives and Partnerships coordinates the City Scholars program, which creates pathways for students, faculty, and City staff to collaborate on evidence-informed applied research projects that address the challenges and opportunities facing our community. Through these partnerships, the City seeks to better understand the community’s diverse needs, the impacts of local and global changes, with the aim of designing and delivering high-quality planning, programs, and services that residents depend on.
About The Role The City of Lethbridge is recruiting a Student Researcher to assist on-going research and program coordination. Assisting the Manager of Strategic Initiatives and Partnerships, the Student Researcher will work on a variety of research and data analysis projects in support of department initiatives like graduate retention and youth engagement. They will also coordinate aspects of the City Scholars Program, including designing and delivering peer-to-peer professional development sessions and ongoing student research projects taking place with the City.
To be eligible for this opportunity, applicants must currently be a current post-secondary student or a recent graduate (i.e., within the previous 12 months). This position may also be eligible as a Co-op term.
The length of the role is approximately 4 months (September to December 2025), with the possibility of a 4-month extension (through the end of April 2026) based on job performance and the needs of the department.
What will you be working on? The Primary Focus Areas Of This Short-term Role Are
- Academic and gray literature research aligned to corporate and community ongoing projects and priorities. It is anticipated that the focus areas in the term will be graduate retention and youth engagement.
- Support the coordination and delivery of peer-to-peer learning sessions for the City Scholars cohort.
- Support the coordination of ongoing student research projects taking place with the City.
What skills will you need? Ideal candidates are senior level undergraduate students or recent graduates who possess strong skills in the following areas:
- Research, analysis, critical thinking.
- Multi-taking, time management and prioritization.
- Verbal and written communications (e.g., preparing reports, proposals and presentations).
- Interpersonal communication.

- Be a senior level undergraduate student or recent graduate of any academic discipline / major.
- Be interested in making a positive change in your community (demonstrated through academic, professional and volunteer experience).
- Have a willingness to collaborate, work hard and learn.
Preference Will Be Given To Students
- Who self-identify as a member of an equity-deserving community.
- Have third year standing or higher in an undergraduate program.
- Have a GPA of 3.5 or higher.
- Previous experience in the City Scholars program.

- Location: Lethbridge City Hall
- The role may occasionally be required to attend events and meetings at locations throughout the City and should have access to reliable transportation.
