Position Summary:
Reporting to the Director of Administration and as a member of the Faculty’s Administration leadership team working closely with the heads of the Academic Affairs, Business Systems, Human Resources, and Infrastructure teams, the incumbent delivers a financial planning and compliance role.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Manages the budgeting aspects of the Faculty’s annual planning process and provides financial expertise in the formulation, development and implementation of revenue generating plans and policies
  • Identifies and develops business opportunities and initiatives, taking into account all diverse aspects of academic program needs (e.g. staffing, teaching support, marketing, infrastructure etc.)
  • Acts as the Faculty’s Financial Officer and represents the Faculty on University committees and participates in working groups that address matters pertaining to University budgeting and financial compliance
  • Works closely with Faculty’s key academic and operations stake holders to endure global understanding of financial and resource needs and status.
  • Develops tools and analyses to quantify and forecast revenues and costs to evaluate proposed new initiatives.
  • Rationalize reallocation of resources
  • Report Faculty planning and forecasting needs.
  • Finds funding solutions to meet Faculty short-, mid-, and long-term goals and priorities.
  • Develops and manages the Financial Services Team to ensure responsible and efficient stewardship of Faculty funds respecting McGill’s financial guidelines, policies, and timelines, and in cooperation with appropriate Central offices.
  • Oversees the management, coordination, preparation, and analysis of fiscal reporting including financial statements and reports to satisfy University and Faculty requirements.
  • Collaborates with RFMS to ensure that applicable policies and guidelines for fund usage and reporting are followed, with the goal of minimizing instances of non-compliance.
  • Acts as the principal advisor to the Director of Administration on matters pertaining to budgets, financial planning, and resource appropriation.

Other Qualifying Skills and/or Abilities
Minimum of 5 years of experience in a similar managerial role with operational responsibilities ideally at a Canadian university or institution of higher education. A Master’s degree in a relevant field preferred. Experience with strategic planning and budgeting. Financial management and deep-dive analytical skills, including financial statement analysis and statistics. Excellent organizational skills. Strong communication skills, written and verbal. Ability to lead multi-functional work teams collaboratively with colleagues and peers. Must operate with discretion, integrity and tact. Possess excellent leadership skills and be able to lead and coach staff as well as collaborate with and advise senior academic and administrative staff. Performance and client oriented; able to meet deadlines and demonstrate a high level of leadership and professionalism. Experience using Banner FIS (including the Budget module) and HRIS systems, ideally Workday, as well as Crystal Reports, spreadsheet packages. Knowledge of SQL. Excellent ability to plan while being able to be adaptive to evolving needs and priorities. Solid proficiency in both English and French (written and oral) is preferred.
