Role Responsibilities
The Manager, Resource Authorization oversees the review and authorization of K–12 learning and teaching resources, ensuring alignment with the Provincial Resource Review Guide, the Education Act, and the Alberta Human Rights Act. The role supports integration of resources into provincial digital platforms and leads a flexible team of staff and contractors, to meet curriculum implementation needs. The manager provides expert guidance on resource vetting and helps shape workflows for how resources are reviewed, authorized, and aligned with curriculum.
This position focuses on delivering sustainable and scalable learning and teaching resources—primarily in English and French—to support the implementation and ongoing delivery of new provincial curriculum. It identifies human resource needs and balances the use of full-time staff, contractors, and teacher engagement across Alberta. The manager also determines the expertise required and recommends the best approach to ensure subject matter expertise is effectively utilized.
Key challenges navigating diverse perspectives, adapting to shifting priorities, and proposing solutions with limited direction. The role requires agility, strategic planning, and the ability to pivot based on leadership insights while ensuring timely access to the expertise needed for resource authorization.
Responsibilities:
1. Resource Review & Authorization

Lead and oversee the review and authorization of learning and teaching resources, including those submitted for Minister approval.

Manage the team reviewing learning and teaching resources to ensure alignment with legislation and curriculum frameworks.

Establish strategic processes and standards for the evaluation of learning and teaching resources.

Ensure decisions are informed by expertise and aligned with policy and legislation.

Coordinate authorization processes across branches and divisions.

Build and maintain strategic relationships with internal and external partners.

Manage team operations to meet priorities and timelines.
2. Curriculum Alignment & Resource Evaluation
- Lead a team to align digital and traditional learning and teaching resources with provincial curriculum.
- Ensure review guidelines reflect real-life experiences.
- Confirm existing learning and teaching resources meet curriculum requirements.
- Develop learning and teaching resource prioritization plans based on director’s direction.
- Ensure reviews consider age appropriateness, diversity, and inclusion.

Qualifications
University graduation in a related field (Education, Business Administration, Public Administration, Law, etc.), plus a minimum of 4 years of related experience. Related experience or education may be considered as an equivalency on a one for on basis.
Equivalency: Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of:

1 year of experience for 1 year of education
