Business Overview The Senior Accountant will serve as part of the Toronto based Corporate Accounting team. The position reports to the Manager, Corporate Accounting in Toronto. This role will work closely other Finance team members and business partners to meet the accounting and reporting requirements and is expected to build a strong working knowledge of Fidelity Investments Canada’s business, products, and growth strategy.

What You Will Do

  • Responsible for the execution of accounting functions, including but not limited to journal entries, account reconciliations, variance analysis for the FIC business
  • Take ownership over the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close. Responsible for producing various financial reports for senior management
  • Develop and implement new/enhanced systems and procedures to ensure adequate accounting and control for specific accounting functions.
  • Take lead role in preparing schedules and documentation for quarterly reviews and annual external audits
  • Prepare IFRS compliant financial statements and stay abreast of developments in the industry impacting financial reporting.
  • Assist with the implementation of new accounting policies and procedures as well as administering existing policies and procedures
  • Document all internal operating and control procedures
  • Monitor key performance indicators and the impact of accounting issues on the business
  • Participate in the development and completion of special and/or ad-hoc projects as assigned

What We’re Looking For

  • Working towards or completion of a Professional accounting designation (CPA) required.
  • College degree with a focus on accounting preferred or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience with progressively more advanced accounting, financial analysis and operations work required.

Skills and Knowledge

  • Thorough understanding of IFRS and financial statement generation including disclosures
  • Experience in Financial Industry is a strong asset
  • Hard-working, can-do attitude and the desire to succeed in a fast-paced environment
  • Intellectual curiosity and strong problem-solving skills required
  • Ability to work well both independently and in a collaborative work environment is required
  • Proficiency in financial statement analysis
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and critical thinking skills
  • Prior experience in a public accounting or accounting role
